test dorve SS/SC today!

and man what a dream it was...it was silver in color. An '06 with 4,100 miles, asking price was 18,950 for it. Had a sunroof, no LSD. One question though is about the rev limiter. 1st gear came so fats when you gunned it...and my buddy in the passenger seat said it hit about 7100 RPM's..and he was freaking out hoping I owuldnt hurt it ebcause he was saying there couldnt be a rev lmiter..he is slmost certain we hit 7100, and I DID for a fact see it hit 6600 and 6700 a few times...so is there a rev lmiter on the 06 or what?

Yes there is a rev limiter supose to be 6500-6600 range. Maybe the guy who traded it in had a stage 2 which as a redline at about 7000. If you have no redline thats freaking awesome and I would keep it that way, its not your fault if something goes wrong but atleast you can rev higher if need be

you should have a rev limiter at 6,450rpm's stock. with a stage kit, 7,000.

interesting.

well, the car was used with 4,000 miles, GM certified for 36,000 miles. It is completely stock, they barely drove it, not a mark on the outside or inside. Leather isn't even broken in or cracked yet. No srage kits like I said....so i dont know what's up with it, definately was not one at 6500 for sure....yet even 6900ish. Could they tamper wiht something like that?

Just to be clear, you said no LSD, not no Stage kits.

My guess is whoever owned it, or even the dealership, installed Stage 2. Thats the only really logical explanation for that. The other explanation would be that whoever owned it also had HPTuners and increased the redline him/herself, but that seems highly unlikely.

the gauge isn't the most acurate, especially on 1st, if you pushed it on other gears you'd probably seen that it is infact 6500RPM unless it's a staged cobalt as stated above

makes sense, thanks guys. so as for other stuff, i'm not sure that im as impressed with the SS as I thought i'd be. don't get me wrong I LOVE it, but i guess it's because I had wished for more for so long after driving the LS Sport. I wished for TOO much more. overall I liked it. Hated sucky no grip tires, disliked how fast second gear was..was over in under a second, and didn't like how floaty the suspension felt. The leather seats were very nice, second gear was beautiful, and the clutch was like heaven to work with. didn't stall once, and my LS is an auto. supercharger whine was like god. the shifts seemed hard to tell whether they were in soemtimes or not, but overall it shifted smooth...just my overall opinions on the ss/sc.

Yeah its light so you get that floaty feel around corners. Gears take some getting use to and yes the stock tires suck. Its not bad for the price and if you are into speed the modifications are pretty cheap for what you get out of them. Otherwise if you are looking for more handling with power I'd buy a used evo.
