For those with an SS/SC that rattles...

...I've taken mine in at least 4 different times with this issue. I've even printed out a thread from here and taken it with me. All they kept telling me is that they have to hear the noise first. Well if you've had this problem, you know that it doesn't rattle non-stop so it was a little difficult to finally get it in there.

One night I decided to stop by on a whim and sure enough it starts rattling. I get a service cashier who then calls the service manager (who I had spoken with in the past and he said if he could hear it, he would fix it). He starts listening to it with some stethoscope device and determines that it was coming from the rear of the engine and not what we all think from the supercharger. He then proceeds to tell me that after all this, he needs his technician to hear it as well. That pissed me off because he said if he heard it, he would fix it. He also mentions that he's a certified mechanic.

Well he orders some part...alternator or something, but he said that this probably isn't the right part and "we will end up eating the cost." So I had my dad drop it off today to get that part installed and it starts rattling like crazy. We had one of their technicians come over and within about 45 seconds he says it's the supercharger. The stupid service cashier kept saying "no, the service manager said it was coming from the back." The guy said well he's wrong, this is the supercharger.

Well guess what, they are now overnighting a brand new supercharger for me.

Moral of the story, if this is happening to you, be persistent and don't take crap from a shitty dealership.

It is under warranty until the middle of March. Heck, if they want to give me a brand new supercharger, then by all means go for it.

Update:

I picked the car up today and hear a loud squeeking noise...like it's a fan belt or something. And back to the shop it goes...

Yeah I think so too! Who knows what they did. I'm going to speak with the mechanic tomorrow. Even though I have a new supercharger in there, I still don't think that solved the problem. I'd like to mention the timing chain tensioner and see what his thoughts are.

The squeaking is just the belt not on properly,Had the same issue was off by one rib and you couldnt tell by looking at it.

Yeah, I think it's worth mentioning to see what he thinks. If he says it's not that, then fine, at least I asked. They also gave me a new fuel pump because my car was on the recall list.

Does this rattling you're referring to sound similar to lifters knocking? Cuz I have that exact kind of sound and have for a while. I've had a bunch of ppl tell me it's no big deal and not to worry about it cuz all the s/c's do it on our cars...

It sounds like marbles rolling around inside a metal can...just a loud rattle. Mine wasn't all the time which was made it so difficult to get this fixed because it never made the noise when I took it in. I would just drive your car to the dealership when you get the chance and hope that it makes the noise when you're there. I understand supercharges make noise...but not like this. The only noise I want to hear is at 3000 rpm...not idle.

As an update...the squeeking noise I heard was apparently the pulley. They said something got on it and they had to replace it. I guess I'm not getting my car back today...

Mine does it EVERY time I start my car and its cold. Like when I'm going to work or the first time starting it all day...once it warms up it somewhat stops. It'll occasionally do it after it's warmed up tho. I'll just take it in and get a new s/c before the upgrades this spring lol

That's exactly the noise man. You're lucky yours does it all the time. It should be easy to get them to hear it. Just make sure you get a mechanic to listen to yours and don't accept no for an answer lol.

I'd have to drive it to the dealer and let it sit over night and then start it for them in the morning...I can't be without my car that long since I need it to do my job lol I'm compiling a list of **** that needs fixed on it and I'm taking it in right before I do my build and completely destroy my warranty lol
