I have a ticking noise, but only when I shut the car off. I have no idea if either mine or yours is normal...

Might be the fuel injectors you are hearing. It's there all of the time, but maybe you only hear it under certain conditions.

Try this, with the car idling in nuetral w/ the Parking Brake ON, open the hood and put your ear down by the fuel injectors. You'll hear them ticking -- if that's your noise then there's nothing to worry about.

Otherwise I'd take it in and let the dealership look at it.

This ticking noise is completely normal after you shut the car off. I have had it on ever car I have ever owned. Beretta Z26, Monte Carlo SS, My Cavalier Z24 etc etc. It's the metal contracting and cooling down. Nothing to be concerned about AT ALL..

That's kind of what I thought to, my RS did it as well, but the SS has a much different tick to it than the Cavalier did, much faster. I assumed though it was somewhat normal, the only thing different was the speed of the sound...if that makes any sense.

When Car and Driver said the Cobalt makes some weird noise there were not exagerating. I hear so many weird noises in my car it's not funny, they have always been there so I am not to worried about them. Just get a louder exhaust so you can hear them anymore.
