Usually the only ticking noise is after you shut the car off. It comes from the catalytic converter. Where under the car is the ticking noise coming from? And does it only happen when it is cold or everytime that you start the car?

mine has a little "ticking" sound from under the car sometimes. mine cause my magnaflow catback. where it bolts together some air gets out and makes the ticking noise. i fixed it with exhaust tape stuff that i got at autozone

it only happens when I first start the car when it warms up it stops. if it sits for a long time then I start it its louder. it sounds like its coming from under the car its not a metal clinging noise the tech thought it was the heat shield but it wasn't. its not a metal clinging noise its a loud tick and it gets faster as u accelerate in a rev or driving. its driving me crazy

my axels do make a noice a single click when I go in reverse that's it I was told that was normal. this is something different though the ticking is non stop til the car warmsup

My 07 SS SC has been making the same noise whenever it is has been sitting and I start up and start backing up or driving off i hear maybe ten or so ticks that are totally random they seem to happen under acceleration and when i let off the gas and the engine moves inside the motor mounts. Its really starting to **** me off did you ever figure out what it was?

JESUS... what a bunch of N00B's trying to answer this problem.

It is your STOCK cat-back. Plain and Simple. The stock cat-back CONSTANTLY ticks when it is warm. I had the same thing when I bought the car... and it went away when I installed my GMPP Performance Cat-Back.

Its not the cat... because I put on a brand new stock downpipe about 6 months ago... and the ticking didn't come back.

Maybe it's a very small exhaust leak that closes up after the pipes heat up and expand. Try checking your header/dp connection and your dp/catback connection.

No... its not a leak... exhaust leaks don't tick... they kinda whistle when you push the gas in.

Its the metal from the stock Cat-Back.

Lock this bitch.

He said the sound goes away when it's warmed up.

Its the stock Cat-Back. Do I need to put this into a rap song to a slick beat?

Order the GMPP Performance exhaust and install it... if the ticking doesn't go away, I'LL pay for the exhaust.

It's users with this sort of helpful tone that really contribute to the wellness of the css.net community. /sarcasm

Exhaust ticking occurs from expanding or contracting metal. This would happen by the exhaust metal or surrounding metals (such as a heat shield) heating up or cooling down. Just judging by your post and replies, I'd say have the dealer double-check your whole exhaust to rule that out and also get the axles checked. If your vehicle is under warranty, and they say it is not the exhaust, then they must find what the issue is so that your vehicle is safe!

Not trying to argue, but you said the stock catback ticks constantly when the car is warm, and he says the ticking goes away after the car has warmed up, so that makes it sound like two different things to me.

I have had small exhaust leaks in the past that made a "tick-like" sound to me, though everyone's interpretation of what sounds like a "tick" is different.

I guess the point is, since no one else has personally heard the sound in question, we're all really just guessing.

My car ticks a bit too when it's first started, after it hits 35-40 celsius it goes away. I never worried about it, my last 2 cars have done the same. I just figure its the block or exhaust expanding as it's being heating rapidly.

I have had the GMPP cat back and Manifold installed on my car for almost 8 months now and this problem just started recently out of the blue it seems like. I dont think it is anything to do with exhaust this sounds more like an axle or something around that area. It only lasts for maybe 50 feet after the car has been sitting for at least 15 minutes then it just goes away. Performance isnt affected at all its just really bad sounding and it seems to be getting worse since I installed my stage 2 a couple days ago.
