Count me out. Final specs of this header changed my mind. I was VERY interested when it was to be Stainless Steel, and not a shorty.

I've now found exactly what I was looking for, 100% Stainless, nice long runners, and 3inch downpipe with highflow cat. All this, and its even cheaper than TOG's with downpipe.

Thank You TOG, for developing for our platform!!! Its just not what I was hoping for.

TOG does NOT build stainless steel long tube headers, so I am not sure where you got the idea they did or that was what they were developing.

Just be careful of what header you do decide to buy as many companies who build in stainless use a lower grade stainless that is very thin gauge that will tick and eventually warp, crack, etc.....

Well TOG mentioned stainless steel and long tube headers when we initially talked to them on the board. Well I should say thats what a couple members asked for and I don't remeber TOG saying it would be a problem. During the R&D I guess that changed to mild steel and a shorty.

They use mild steel on every header they make so it's not a suprise that ours turned out the same way.

I ordered mine a few minutes ago, and John told me that they would be going into production with these.

He said that they got enough orders from individuals and dealers to do the production run.

About the stainless part.....they are coating them with electroless nickel plating which is increases hardness, and corrosion resistance over what regular stainless offers. They are also ceramic coating them to reduce underhood temps.

Besides, they offer a NO FAULT lifetime warranty.

Are you sure he said electroless nickel?? The last time I dealt with TOG they only offered ceramic coated headers.

Hey guys, don't assume that stainless steel is the way to go. It's also more expensive. With thick 14 gauge mild steel coated inside and outside it is actually twice as durable then stainless steel. Many header companies will "sell you on stainless steel" but will actually use 16 or 18 gauge material which does have a tendency to 'tick' with the exhasut because of the 'thin' material and will corrode quicker. Headers typically will break down from the inside out. Exhaust gasses are VERY corrosive. Stainless steel does not have the same characteristics of a ceramic coating. When coated in ceramic, it actually creates a "Thermal Barrier" of protection between the steel and exhaust gasses. When properly cured, the ceramic actually impermiates itself into the steel creating the 'Thermal Barrier'
Ceramic, by property, actually helps to 'Move' heat, which with a header application will lower under hood temperatures. Think of a ceramic coated cooking pan. I hope this sheds some light on the issue.

FYI, we no longer coat with electroless nickel. All headers will be coated with a high polish silver ceramic coating inside and out.

I agree with TOG 100%. We even sent a piece of 16 gauge 304 stainless and a piece of 16 gauge mild steel that was ceramic coated to Staveley Services Materials Testing facility in Santa Fe Springs Ca. for testing and the findings backed up what we have known for a long time. Stainless though it has a low iron content still rusts/corrodes when exposed to the heat and gasses found in engine exhaust. SUS 304 actually goes quicker than stainless produced in USA, but it doesn't hold up like ceramic coated steel does.
We did see discoloration in the luster of the ceramic coating, but after the same testing the steel under the ceramic coating showed no signs of wear.

Jet Hot is crap, their sterling coating is only rated to 1300 degrees!

The TOG coating is rated at 2200 degrees!

If you want anything re-coated just talk to Jon at the TOG shop, he did the headers on my truck.

Thats why they have JetHot2000. Good to over 2000degrees, comes in gray, blue, or black finish.

I had my ecotec turbo manifold, exhaust housing, and downpipe done in 2000. Then all the charge pipes done in Sterling.

I'll post pics when the header is done, I don't want to hijack this thread anymore.

When you install aftermarket parts they can not "void" your warranty... All they can do is decline a warranty repair if they have deemed that the damage was caused by the part you installed.... For example.... If you have a header on and your transmission blows up they cant deny the claim for that unless they can prove that the header caused the damage..... I dont think they are going to be able to do that.....

*EDIT* Oh ya... I ordered my TOG header today !

I talked to TOG today and didnt get a price on the DP.... but I think that group buy or pre production purchase or whatever it will be isnt going to be for a little while.... They need a Cobalt so they can check fitment... I guess it was fitted for a Redline and there are some slight differences but they dont want to go into production with it until they know that its 100% right !
