top speed for each gear...

"1st = 31mph
2nd = 62mph
3rd = 93mph
4th = 128mph
5th = 182mph

according to a transmission calculator and chevy's website gear ratios

edit:---this is ONLY for the SS/SC"

found this over on .com and thought you guys might like it. i know the numbers are off alittle cause you can hit 60 in 2nd no porb. its good to know you got alot of room befor you really need to mess with the tranmision beside flywheel and clutch.

Any one who drives the a cobalt should know thats not accurate. the first gear one maybe but the rest pan out like 2nd:65 3rd:100 4th 138-140 5th ? I'ven had mine up to 152 but ran outta room took too long to get even too that speed. Then again i know a kid with an 04 redline and his gear work out like the ones you posted. Werid huh? For cars that are suposed to be identical drivetrain wise Gm was sure trying out some **** on the redline.
edit: 5th gear 182 ?!?!

well 182 would be if you had the power its not limited by the rpm its limited by the engine not having the power to get it that fast

Every Pass down the track... I dunno the MPH for 1st and 2nd, but i always come through the traps just about redlining 3rd. 3rd gear redlines right at ~100MPH

What kind of car do you drive? I dont think its a Cobalt. That sounds more like a Vette.
147 in 4th? If that was the case, we wouldnt need a 5th gear.

If we could go 80mph in 2nd our track times would be a lot nicer.

Ok, heres what mine does, but keep in mind the speedos are slow, you have to hold the rev limeter for a sec to see what it really is...

1st: 34-35
2nd: 67-68
3rd: 99-100
4th: 137
5th: 149 was it for me

Those are dead on for my SS/SC anyway...

Shift speed data for the SS/SC using Quaife Speedcalc software (and using the CORRECT trans ratios NOT those published on the Chevy web site)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Gear gives 26.883 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 174.740 MPH at 6500 RPM

Engine speeds in top gear:-
30 MPH = 1116 RPM 40 MPH = 1488 RPM 50 MPH = 1860 RPM 60 MPH = 2232 RPM
70 MPH = 2604 RPM 80 MPH = 2976 RPM 90 MPH = 3348 RPM 100 MPH = 3720 RPM

Top Speed in 1 gear = 36.189 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 3385 RPM dropping 3115 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 69.499 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 4358 RPM dropping 2142 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 103.659 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 4903 RPM dropping 1597 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 137.436 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 5112 RPM dropping 1388 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 174.740 MPH
************************************************** **********************
I would post a pic of the graph, but for some reason I cannot post pics or PDFs

Seem ok to me. If you get every gear just right your car should almost be top speed by end of fourth.

1st= I have no idea, it goes way too fast
2nd=65
3rd=106

the rest I don't know yet, my tires are different that is why my gears are longer, they are
255/50/15 G-force DR's

I trap around 108 at the beginning of 4th

It is interesting to see that you guys have a higher top RPM per gear than the SRT-4's.

SRT-4
1st = 30 mph
2nd = 60 mph
3rd = 90 mph

I don't remember the numbers for 4th and 5th. I know from experience that a stock ECU governs the car at 146 MPH in 5th. I assume most of you that run are shifting into fourth just right before your cross the 1/4 mile?

Nah its not too unexspected, you guys are geared better for the quarter mile than us. But not sure if shorter gearing works out better with turbocharged cars or not, or if it hinders the cars pull. All i know is when an srt gets to its taller 4th gear it pulls a lot harder. The cobalt seems to fall on its face in its tall 4th gear. Maybe its just the way a supercharged car acts compared to a turbocharged car and not gearing at all.

are you for real, I shift into fourth at the track and I don't need too. I shift just before redline. So I thought. So if I stay in 3rd how much will my ET drop.
