The only SS/SC that seems to past the 150 MPH mark are the 06 SS/SC ...

Technically, theres really no governer in the ecu cutting off your top speed. Your top speed is cut off by drag limitations or via the output circuit on the transmission. Obviously the drag limitation is cutoff by the car not having enough power to overcome the coefficent of drag(air/wind resistance). Now, how the output limitation works is once the transmission output sensor reads a set voltage, im guessing it cuts back fuel to further the driver from going faster, usually this is because the tire specs arent up to par with going that fast. Im not 100% sure this is how the cobalt works, but im sure its pretty damn close.

yeah.. that would be called a fuel shutoff controlled by the ecu.

What the speedo reads is not an accurate reading at top speed. They are a little off from TRUE road speed. Oh and SloBaltSS, you can suck my left nut, if you took your hand out of your pants and used both hands to type maybe your posts would make more sense. Have you ever heard a mag use that term before?, i sure haven't, and i read alot of car mags. "Drag limited" could also be known as TOP SPEED. If it was really limited by the Cd then more HP would NOT over come it. 140mph+ is as fast as @205HP will make 2960Lbs go. Does the 2.4L SS go 140+?, no. Does it have more drag?, no. It just has less HP in the same package. How much HP would it take to go 150?, 160?, more then we have and THATS why our top speed is 140ish. If you took that big wing off, the side mirrors, and taped up the seams, with your windows up think you would make 155? maybe 160?, not likely.

There are 2 ways of fixing this.... make the car more wind resistant, or add more power to overcome the wind resistance to reach a new max speed. Talk half as much as you listen asshat.

Oh, and WOP, its called the VSS mod... look it up on j-body.... car doesn't know how fast its going, so it keeps going faster...

Oh, and on subject, mine hit 149 and just wouldn't go anymore.... of course I covered deltona to sanford in the space of that run... but it was 4 in the morning on the interstate.

exactly. It takes a certain amount of hp to reach top speed. Drag limited means there are still rpms left BUT it all the cars hp are sustaining that speed. It has no more hp for acceleration.

Cars are either: electronicaly limited in top speed
rpm limited (you hit redline)
Drag limited (below redline, no limiter)

Car and Driver does a Top speed on every single road test.

Well we seem to be having a pissing contest over this one. All i am saying is "drag limited" is a new one on me. Just call it the top speed and save alot of arguing. On a similar note i was just reading that the new bugatti veyron needs 266HP to go 150mph. Thats with a Cd of 37, has anybody seen what the reading is on a cobalt SS?. Would be neet to see how it compares up to 150mph

That statement is true, but i think itd be more toward other purposes such as revvin' in neutral or when you forget to switch gears. I dont think the main purpose of fuel shutoff is for top speed limiting, but you may be right, i dont know all the specs on the cobalts ecu.
