Traction
Traction
I only have stage 2, aribox mod and a cat-back now. I'm trying to decide what I want to do with my car. I can spend a few hundred, or I can spend a few thoulsand, as long as I get my money's worth on whatever I get I'll be happy. The point of this post is, I'd like to know, with street tires, running close to normal pressure in them( as in not letting alot of air out to gain traction), with ingalls, or t-bars, trans mounts or whatever works for you. What kind of whp can you put down and still have good 2end gear traction on street tires on the street.
get tranny mounts, engine mounts, the biggest thing that helped me though i'm not sure if it was the mod itself of the combo of all the things was lowering springs. 0 wheel hop after i put on the springs.
first gear traction will always be worthless on street tires unless you lower the boost. i chirp 2nd a little but nothing worth complaining about.

i've heard mixed reviews about having a solid motor mount w/ full exhaust and 3" catback, not to say its not a great product cause everyone says it is, they just say there is a whole lot more vibration with it, any body want to chime in?
but you get used to it. i don't really notice them anymore, but if someone gets in my car they notice it. one thing that most people don't mention with the mounts is the way the car shifts so much smoother as well. the engine doesn't try to jump out of the car. well worth it.
my gf gets car sick real bad and has to take medicine any time we go on a long drive so that she doesn't get sick. and it doesn't bother her. honestly she complained a little bit at first, but she got used to it as well and doesn't even notice anymore.
when people put new parts on their cars they are more "aware" of what's happening. meaning if you put a mod on, and all of a sudden you hear a noise, people start freaking out, when in reality that noise could have been there all along.
my thoughts on the topic are you should expect the vibrations that come along with the mounts. it's like saying "i want a full exhaust, but i want it to be as quiet as stock." if you're realistic about what you're doing and give it a chance it will be fine. and if you don't like them, you can always take them out and sell them. the tranny mounts are cheap, and there's always people that will buy a very slightly used engine mount.

I rode in a car with SMM and the tranny bushings... two balts actually, a SC and LT. I thought the ride was pretty harsh. At idle the vibes were pretty bad, and when taking off it felt like the whole car was going to fall apart. I only have the Ingalls TD on my car (set to the stiffest setting) and I still get hop, but not nearly as much as when it wasn't there. I'd say 75% of the wheel hop I encounter is at the track. And since the car is my daily, I think the TD is a good tradeoff between reducing wheel hop yet still providing a comfortable ride. Just my opinion.
I just have the tranny mounts and it made a big difference in power transfer and wheel hop, But the trade off is i get some really nasty vibs. Also the glove box makes so much nosie.
Look into the Powell Motorsports mounts..I dont know prices or anything as I'm too broke right now but you can get either solid or vibefree and they actually change the angle of the engine so it lines up nicer. I had solid mounts and it was crazy vibes and it still hopped cause the way the engine sits.
Some good advice on traction mods, thanks. I still didnt get an answer though on my main question, maybe I didnt word it right. I want to build my car and get more power, my line I draw for my car being comfortable/easy to drive is having 2end gear traction. I have great traction now in 2end, its only 1st gear that I spin easy just like anyone else. 2end only spins if I powershift while allready spinning 1st. I want to know how much whp I can put down and still not break the tires loose in 2end from a roll(say 2-3k rpm?), with traction mods.
I want to have more power like most people, but I want to be able to punch it in 2end and still have the tires hook. If I end up wanting more for track use I'll probably just run nitrous and slicks, but right now I just want to build a practical street-car with some *****.

Ok. Well hope this helps a bit. I have the ingalls Torque damper tight as possible with Gm stage 3 kit and I break traction in 2nd gear often too often for my liking. SO im looking in to getting those mounts. Im no drag racer at all but I just want to be able to make a real clean 1-2 and pull all the way through without breaking traction which right now is hit and miss.

Wheel hop is only half of it, by still having soft mounts, which you get with the Powell Motorsports mount. (relocates only one tanny mount)
Mounts also maximize torque to the wheels, as the stock soft mounts, allow the engine to move. This movement takes torque. Solid mounts eliminate this movement and transfers more torque to the wheels.
This is why LARGE companies like Prothane and Energy Suspension are around. So if you do not care about a little bit of vibs, solid mounts (more solid than stock) is the way to go. Most like the vibs, as they are very mild, it gives the car a nice feel.
If you dont want any vibs Powell maybe the way to go. However, you will gain more with Solid Poly Mounts. (all 3: Engine and 2 tranny)
