Tuner Questions
Tuner Questions
Ok I might be shooting myself in the foot here but I am not much of a 4cylinder guy but I trying to help a friend mod his SS and he is to dang big of a ***** to join up and ask questions hisself because he doesnt know much about cars.
I have worked on cars and bikes for the better part of my life and I have a modded Mustang so I am pretty good with engines in general.
SO my question is with most supercharged cars I have came across the best thing to do is to drop pulley sizes and add a tune. I really cant find much and I was hoping you guys could help me or mainly him out.
He already has a WeaponR intake on it and is convinced its junk so he would like a intake, blower pulley and tune combo if possible. It also has a can exhaust of some kind, not sure what
Any help is appricated, please dont trash cause I got a stang, just trying to help out a SS owner

Look in here. This should answer most of your questions. Assuming the guy has a supercharged SS.

Ok thank, I read it
I know he is going to need a tuner no quesitioned asked.
I live in SW VA close to the TN border and NC but i dont know of any tuner shops around here, is there any specialty companys that offer tunes off the net.
Just for instance, Bama tunes writes custom tunes for mustangs on the internet.
He says he has 600 buck or so in the bank he is willing to let go of to play with this thing
Another question is, its was taking about injector sizes. What size injectors does the car come with It is a Supercharged 2.0L I believe a 06-07 not sure exactly. Will he need a upgraded fuel pump if he goes up injectors, how does the stock pump handle mods
As you can see I have a thousand questions because I have never messed with a car like this

best advice. look around that thread and get info there. there is a lot of good info there.
anyways, stock injectors are about 32# or so. you do not need an upgraded fuel pump untill you reach atleast 400WHP. stock pump is awesome for what it is.
best advice is buy the stage 3 kit from zzp. comes with all cooling mods, and you choose the pulley size you want.most ppl go with 2.9" or 2.8". 50# injectors are more than enough for what he wants, but a lot of ppl go with 60# to have more room to grow, and if hes going e85, he will need 80# injectors.
and as for the tuner, best bet is find a local tuner some what close to you to get tuned OR he can buy HPtuners and have a tuner remotely tune him. he sends the tuner logs of the car and they send back tunes, etc.

once you know the pump is working u need to get a header and downpipe before u pulley down. If he wants an new intake get the ZZP 3" intake its like 200 with filter. 600 will pretty much buy him the support mods he needs to be able to pulley down, the car is max from the factory on the stock injectors and no u will not need to upgrade the fuel pump
Here is a few website that carry parts for our car.
ZZPerformance - Go Fast... Not Broke
Chevy Cobalt
Turbo Tech Racing - Experience The Boost! - Turbo Tech Racing
If he's got $600 to throw around just have him to go ZZPerfomance and get the Cobalt Stage 3 kit. Dual pass endplate, heatexchanger, 60#, 2.8, etc....There are people on here who can tune him or just use the ZZP canned tune. That will probably net him what he wants, at least for now, and with the budget he has.
All right thanks guy i am sure he will appricate it. Its good to have the imput about the coolant pump we will check that out asap.
So I will have him read this and I am sure we willl be checking back maybe he can join up and tell you guys about how he finally out ran me, which he hasnt done yet but he will eventually.
Any other imput is appriacted and thanks again.
I told him to keep shoping. Stuff for these cars are cheap. My Stang with a custom tuner and intake with larger mass air cost me over 500. Seems like he gets a little more bang for the buck.

I will be down in VA for work and have hptuners. If he does not have it done by then James CSS3 can remotely tune you using my cable. I have a aircard so we can send him updates and receive them on the road.
Not sure what tuners if any live in that state. So for a remote tune css3 is a good choice.

should be able to see coolant flowing through the neck that sticks up in front of the sc thats filled with coolant. and if nothing else get down next to it while its running and listen to it you should be able to hear it.
U need to turn on the car and remove the top off the filler neck thats beside the supercharger, dont mistake coolant flow with the coolant shaking due to crap mounts, it is working u will see the coolant flowing, u may also have to fill up the neck
