Turbo?

So I'm considering going with a turbo set up and I hear piecing one together is the best way to go. for you guys that have done it before what will I be looking at price wise all said and done assuming I put it all in myself?

zzp has a good turbo set up right now but i got the hahn kit because mine was a daily and i coulldnt be without a car for long. obviously my choice was a lot more $$ but so far so good but with the other modz i spent a few extra dollars

for me i would say have at least 6k in your pocket. you wont necessarily need it depending on the setup you choose but things happen and nothing goes as planned no matter how hard you try.

piecing it together or buying a kit... just really depends on what your price range is. you can piece one together cheaper, but you'll also need alot more time to spend on fitment/troubleshooting. the bolt on kits are more expensive but require alot less tinkering, and more than likely you could get a temporary tune from someone on here since they may have the same setup already.

it's really just a toss up, is it worth your time and trouble to save $500-$1000?

oh snap you've got e85 already too.. get one, i wanna see what a good turbo setup will do on e85

Off the top of my head, here's how much I've spend so far on parts:

-s20g : 600

-Apexi Turbo timer: 75

-2.2 belt and tensioner: 50

-Hahn turbo manifold: 250

-HKS BOV: 200

-Tial Wastegate: 200

-Oil Line & Return Fitting: 40

That's what I've spent so far. The biggest costs I'm going to incur is an intercooler and intake manifold. But I think after everything is said and done, minus the sell of my s/c stuff, I'm looking at around $1500 at most spent. And every piece that I've gathered so far is brand new, so it just goes to show you that if you do your research, you can find good deals for quality parts.

Yea I'm thinking I will probably go with the zzp kit if I do it at all. I know not many people have done E85 and a turbo kit should put down some damn solid numbers. definitely haven't given up on the tvs completely.

Dont give up on the TVS man, you just bought it.

Your car has to be making some decent power considering youre running an E-85 tune.

oh its definitely making decent power. my twin brother just bought a redline and he offered me almost what I paid if I did go turbo so this is the only reason I even considered it.

I was thinking about doing the s252 extended tip says its good for about 50whp more and If I am going to do the swap I want more than 350.

he should just save himself the trouble from the beginning cause once you get the turbo swap in your head, it just annoys you until it's done

as much as it hurts to say he might be right. I love superchargers and I always told myself I would never go to the dark side but I don't know, just can't find too many disadvantages to the swap. A slight powerband disadvantage but if your making 50whp more powerband won't make up for it.

I looked into doing a turbo swap from zzp awhile back, I was told to go with the s252 extended tip as well, they said it would probabaly bring me in somewhere between 375-385 whp range. My only suggestion would be piece your own front mount intercooler together yourself. You can save some extra money that way.

there's no powerband disadvantage unless you use some oversized or crazy turbo ratio. don't listen to that bullshit on here

as i said in the war stories section, how many ******* do you know that race below 3000rpm? but if you're talking about spool time vs bypass valve closing speed, i would take an extra 100 tq/100hp at a 0.5 second delay over a -100hp/-100tq 0.1 second delay ANY day
