Turbo choices...

So, I'm goin turbo on my LSJ and I figured this is the section to get the best feedback. I don't need a monster turbo cuz I'm not goin for 500whp. My goals are in the range of 360-400. I know, it's a broad range but I want no less than 360 but don't really wanna go over 400. I was doing some research on turbos and I see a few ppl goin with the 3071, 3076, and 35R but those just seem a little too large for me. The GT2871R looks like a good choice for me and seems to be all I need. I'm not trying to claim I know everything there is to know about turbos and such, so if anyone has good usable advice I would appreciate it. I don't need bullshit posts or anything like that, I'm just trying to get info on the best turbo for my application. Thanks in advance to those that'll help me out.

bump

I was...changed my mind and decided to go turbo like I planned on when I picked this car out 2 years ago. I got caught up in the big blower hooplah and even bought the TVS and all supporting mods lol Have most of it sold already too and haven't even posted a thread yet lol I have the blower itself left.

Anyone that's interested btw, my blower is for sale pending 1 person says no that I already told had dibs a while ago. Price is $1850 shipped OR $1800 picked up. Blower is brand new still in the crate. I took the plastic off to oogle at it but that's it lol

Is it just the blower or the kit?

just the blower itself w/ stock pulley. I had a 2.8 and 2.7 but sold those. Also have a meth kit pending Todd doesn't find me a buyer for it.

Meh. I was determined on going TVS, but I decided to just buy a block, have it built, then turbo it. I might end up just doing as much as I can with a stock ported m62 while the block is built.

gt28 is too small. garrett themselves say the gt3071r is the best all around turbo for a 2L motor. of course it won't make as much peak power as a 3076, but it does make alot more than a 28

Yeah I was looking at getting a 3071 myself. but for just over 350 360 a 28 would do it and with some killer spool times

20g is one of my thoughts being that it's cheap and its power potential is proven but I've also heard some bad news from the S20g turbos on the skittles and CSRT's as well so I'm basically looking at the higher end turbos for now. I'd get the HAHN kit if it werent so effing expensive. I'm trying to do this whole build on a 3k budget or so.

Why not get the Hahn base kit level 1 or level 2 and they home make the rest of the items?

That is if you are considering the 20G

Cuz I don't want to basically lol I'm not completely sold on the HAHN turbo. If HAHN would sell a kit minus the turbo then I'd be interested in that. Like I said in my PM to you, I don't need injectors, tune, or the turbo outta their kit. I would personally rather go with a Garrett or Bullseye turbo. But, HAHN doesn't sell their stuff sepatately like that....which they should btw, they prolly would make at least a few sales just selling the charge pipes and intercooler as a kit so ppl like me who want to use a diff turbo can still buy their stuff w/out buying them at individual prices.

it's at the shop right now getting finished, this is the 2.2L garrett turbo kit, modified by jannetty racing to fit the 2.0L. shutzero said full spool at 4000, but i would expect it to be a few hundred sooner by installing a manifold and removing that oem manifold. right now it's blowing through an fmic and the oem manifold. my shop here is also doing some machining mods to the setup, we're not sure if it's going to help or hurt it. guess we'll find out when it gets on the dyno

with that said, ted jannetty said this exact kit put down 330whp/340wtq at 22psi

if the shop is able to get the parts they're waiting on tomorrow, it should be done by friday, if not.. it'll be one day next week and i'll have numbers and more feedback

i paid $2700 shipped from shutzero on here for the entire system and that included an aem electronic boost control system. the only thing it did not come with are some fitting and a couple of vacuum tubes .

from jannetty, lord knows how much it cost, i would say about $4000 probably

This is also probably a dumb question, but will ss/tc charge pipes(aftermarket) work for me? I'm thinking no, but its at least worth an ask lol

To be honest. I doubt that a gt28 will get you to 360 w/o 25+ psi. A 3076 is just about the perfect match for this car for a stock motor.
