To the turbo folks
I'm looking into going all turbo on my balt. I currently have an 07 SS/SC, but after crunching numbers and talking to a few performance shops, it seems like going all turbo is going to be the better way to go. I have about $8K that I'm looking to put into performance mods within the next month, but going all turbo seems to be the most efficient way to build up power with the money that I have. With this being the case, what would be the best turbo that I could purchase for the money? Keep in mind, that $8K would have to cover the turbo, the supporting parts, and labor. I could possibly do much more, but then I'd have to sacrifice my body work.
I'm not worried about having to modify the body, that's fine, I'll pay to have that done, I have money set aside for my kit and all that anyway... I just want something that will work without having to replace damn near everything. If I can keep my SC then I'm interested in that as well... and if it means going twin turbo, that's fine as well...

There really isn't a point in doing twins on our little 4cylinders. Not to mention the complications of all that plumbing there would be going on. I am also looking for a good street size turbo for our cars. The turbos I'm familiar with are the buick turbos (plus I still have elbows and wastegates from them). When I get around to making something for my car I'm going to be starting off with a stock 86-87 turbo from a buick. They have decent flow and can take a buford into the 12's pretty easily easily. So with our smaller engine, lighter car it should be enough for me to get started. If it's not satisfying me anymore I'll step up to something like a ta49 (about 800cfm) or te44(about 850cfm).

My goal is to achieve around 350-400 HP. I think anything more than that just isn't realistic for regular driving. Hell, with the size of the Cobalt, that might even be pushing it, but that's about where I want to be. I realize that is a more than achievable number, but if I go any route besides turbo, I'm sure the cost would be outrageous. But I know my goal is well within my budget, with money leftover to do some better handling modifications so that the vehicle can handle the turbo outside of the track.
