Tweaking GM2 with HPTuners

Not sure if this should be in the tuning forum or not.

So as some as you know i just recently got my cobalt ss/sc. When i got it the car already had the GM Stage 2 on it. After that i put on it whats in my signature.

So i finally decided to purchase HPTuners for the car and it will be here tomorrow. I do know there is a depository with files under the tuner login where i might be able to find a slightly more agressive tune over the conservative GM2 tune.

Sure someone has tweaked the GM Stage 2 tune and was wondering what kind of gains you saw if it was ever dynoed. I know its a general question but wanted to see what kind of gains the tuner software can provide me.

Looking at two options and thats having Nick at BYT tune the car or having Vince create a file for me.

Also does anyone know of a good tuning book for the LSJ i saw a link to a book once before but cant find it now.

I modified my GM tune. Basically smoothing it all out and cleaning up the maf tables is a good start. As for gains on a straight STG2 car, meh I'd say 10whp total.

Get a wide band and tune the wot section in. Get the fuel trims in check. Then add some timing until it knocks then back off of it.

Looking forward to getting this tomorrow. Know of a few friends that are willing to purchase credits so we can tune their cars. Once the credits are purchased can i always tune that car then?

Definately hoping for a little more horsepower than 10. If it comes down to that i will just purchase a tune from nick or have trifecta send me the Stage 3 +Trifecta Tune.

Wide Band is definately next on my list as well.

It says you are a lil over hr and a half from where I work in NJ. If you wanted to come by one day for lunch I can show you some pointers to get you on your way to playing on your own. OR I can tune the car and show you what I did, then leave some room for you to play with it as well. Up to you

How do you plan to tune you're car if you don't have a wideband? Dialing in you're AFR won't make any seat of you're pants difference. If you can start putting in more timing without knock is where you'll see you're biggest gains.

Wideband is less than a week away so not to worried. Pretty much just doing some logs while running tonight with it at the track. If there is a slight more agressive tune in the repository i will run that once and log it and see if the car does any better.

And i dont know how to tune yet so cant utilize the software to much until i get a lesson or read a bunch about it. Good things come in due time.

What a popular wideband for most of the drivers on here?

Ah gotcha. Does the wideband you ordered have datalogging capabilities?

Get something that has data logging. Makes it so easy to tune. Plug it into the computer, do a pull, see where you're AF is through the entire run and you can set a base for lets say 11.7 as an example and it will tell you what % of fuel to add or take through the pull. A lot easier then looking at you're wideband while driving

Dialing in your afr is the most important thing in a tune. With a shitty afr ratio will cause you to lose power. So in the end, yes it allows for the biggest kick in the pants. You can increase timing all you want on a **** rich tune but it wont get you the best results.

I know but i mean you won't see huge gains just dialing it in. 10whp id say if it's rig rich. But yes definatly dial in you're AFR before anything

I would recommend getting the AEM Uego wideband. For the price it seems to be a very good option and I have had zero issues with mine. As far as tuning Nick is def. one of the nicest guys around. He gave me a few pointers for tuning my turbo swapped lsj. The best thing you can do is spend sometime hunting around the hptuners forums for information. I would recommend what most are and that is to start out by tuning the MAF starting in the midrange cells getting most of your part throttle dialed in then go to your WOT cells which is usually like 6600 and higher. After your fueling is situated then start messing with your timing. Take your time though and make small changes at a time to keep everything safe.

Yeah it looks like the UEGO is the way to go. Gonna order the new gauge pod and UEGO on monday so i can get this car dialed in a little better. Took it to the track last night and could not run lower than 13.6 again which just pisses me off.

I know its not tuned yet and needs some tweaking, just did not want to screw with settings going down the track.

Reading the forums daily and asking as many questions as possible.
