Twincharging...
Twincharging...
Hey guys,
I'm ready to purchase a twincharge kit for my 05 SS/SC, & I'm basically wondering other than buying and installing the twincharge kit. What other mods do we have to do to our cars so as not to break anything or blow the motor?

Umm why the hell would you EVER upgrade the brakes in this car? That'd just be a waste of money.
All you'd need dude is some axles and a clutch down the road whenever you blow the stocker. However, if you want big power and want to make sure your motor doesn't go blowing up out of nowhere your gonna wanna upgrade your pistons but beside that your gold.

For the base (Stage 2) I would upgrade your suspension (springs) and mounts (actually anyone should do this for the SS/SC)
For additional power above that (lets call it 260+hp to 300hp) in addition I would upgrade the brakes (including the lines to braided stainless steel) the clutch and your fuel supply (injectors) and invest in a custom tune - PROVIDED YOU ARE NOT GOING TO RACE
Power above 300hp or racing - all of the above plus your axles, change the clutch to an even stronger one, look at a short throw shifter, very good shocks, start looking at true performance tires and expect to change them out a lot
The above is just a guideline, but remember that increasing performance is not just adding power, you need to change other things on/in the car and one of the most important is safety.

the only reason the tv shows upgrade brakes is because they run them on a road course. if you just gonna drive on the street with a little drag strip racing on weekends you do not need to waste money on brake upgrades.
The brakes on the SS/SC are great, you really don't need to upgrade them unless you are going to be road racing and then you should focus on slotted rotors and things like that to disapait the heat. Otherwise the brakes are fine for street use.
You need to get instrumentation to monitor what's going on with your car. A wideband AF gauge is a most, an EGT wouldn't hurt either. Then you need to get some cooling mods like a heat exchanger, maybe a meth kit and/or cryo kit. Axles and a clutch are a must and while you've got the clutch out you might as well get a new flywheel. Some mounts and/or traction bars would be good to so you can actually hook up the extra power.
Other then that it depends on how much power you want to make, but everything I listed is a pretty much the basic supporting mods that anyone that's going to go much past stock should have in their car.
Good luck and let us see your updates when they happen.

Wow some of you guys are rediculous.
The cobalt ss stops at 119 from 60-0
in comparison
a bugatti veyron stops 60-0 in 111 ft
please try and convince yourself that better brakes are NEEDED.
btw I love this quote:
If you were wearing a 2 Fast 2 Furious racing jacket while writing this I wouldn't be suprised.

Ours is under 3000 lbs... That much weight makes a BIG difference when it comes to stopping.
thats true. but the stopping power is there on the cobalt. it just makes too much heat, warping the rotors.

Your brakes can never be big enough, period, bigger is always better
As for drivetrain mods internally you will need new pistons, head gasket and ARP head studs
externally solid upper mount or torque dampener, stronger axles, clutch and flywheel thats stronger, traction bars, control arm bushings, and depending on your comfort level tranny mounts
After that stuff you should be pretty much bulletproof
