typical noob question maybe...

For future reference try searching first...a lot of simpler questions have been answered already, but I'll still answer for you.
First off, read this: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/general-cobalt-68/your-rights-about-your-car-warranty-aftermarket-mods-7439/
Technically, any modification (esp. bolt ons) can not be used as a reason to void a warranty completely. Now if you install a CAI, and suppose the filter is heavily oiled and it kills your MAP/MAF Sensor, then the dealer has the right to say, "Well, we won't replace that under warranty because the oil from your aftermarket filter caused it to malfunction." But say you install some lowering springs and the next day you have an airbag light going on, the dealer most likely won't (and legally can't - unless they can somehow prove 100% with evidence that your springs screwed with the airbags.) void that part of the warranty and blame it on the springs. It just doesn't make sense.
So mod all you want, just don't expect the specific parts being modded to be covered under warranty if your mod screws it up.

this question has been asked many many times. it will only void your warranty if the dealership proves it caused tha failure, but they cannot void your warranty just becasue it's on the car.
^^ beat me to it
