I stumbled across a shifter bushing on Amazon from a company in the UK and decided to give them a try.
For reference... this is how much play my shifter had with the OE bushing: IMGUR GIFV
A quick and simple install though.
You can see here how much the OE bushing wears though - probably made worse by the SS OTTP STS. This was WHITE lithium grease when I installed it over the summer.
The results are terrific though as I can resume NLSing every gear. I do fear/wonder if there was damage done to the transmission while the bushing was bad. The shifting was getting terrible and 4th was getting to the point where it would give a hint of a grind while going into gear when the transmission was cold. Time will tell. I won't be all that upset about it, as I'll probably move to an HHR F23, opposed to another XFE.
I also found a potential replacement for the crappy stock shifter base. I've been eyeballing CAE Shifters for my racecar VW for a long while. Everyone that I've ever spoken with that has one says they're phenomenal and well worth the money.
didnt OTTP just release that bushing part as well? Congrats on the progress!!! Where in Texas are you located btw?
They released one for the F35 - I swapped to an F23 earlier this year. I was actually wondering the other day if the surface finish of the ball on their STS is the problem and it's eating the cup. Time will tell with this new cup, I suppose.
And I'm in East Fort Worth, just sound of Richland Hills; right along 30, next to 820.
