Valve Cover Gasket

I plan on pulling off the valve cover this week and polishing it, will the gasket be ok or do you all recommend getting a new one for it? Will it be ok as long as I don't tear it? Thanks a lot.

The one originally installed at the factory is glued into place on the cover. If you try to remove it, then you will have to replace it. If you leave it alone, you should be able to avoid tearing it. If you do have to replace it, no big deal, it's cheap. And when you do, don't glue it. You don't need to.

I reused mine with no problem, but it takes forever and a day to get the gasket out carefully.

I would think the dealer is all right now... I went looking for the 2.2L Cobalts and they didn't have them in stock yet. However since the 2.2L had the same valve cover as the cavaliers, i'm almost positive they could get away with buying one for the cavalier ecotec... not 100% sure though.

If it's an L61 engine before 2007, it will work fine. And the GM parts counter price isn't bad at all actually.

my local parts store has next to nothing for ecotec parts. iirc i can get a rear main seal for it. they didnt list any of the other gaskets, or even a gasket set. gm isnt that badly priced anyways.
