Vibrant SS/SC header/downpipe

Guys,

I was lucky enough to exchange an email with the folks @ Vibrant.

They gave me some info on their system coming out for the Cobalt SS/SC.

We can look forward to some pricing info in the Dec 2005 timeframe and hopefully get the chance to acutally get our hands on the products in Jan/Feb 2006.

Part no. 2537 is our 4-2-1 header assembly, which includes a high flow metal core cat in the downpipe for max. flow.

Part no. 1627 is our 3" catback exhaust system for the Cobalt SS / Ion Redline.

I have dealt with them in the past with great results. Same with Draxxas. Both are top notch.

Vibrant dealers, when it's avalible to the public. I know AlteredAtmospheres is a Vibrant dealer, which is the place that made my exhaust. You can go to the Vibrant website and find dealers in your local area as well .

Yes you will actually lose HP. You need some back pressure on 4cly.

when u gutted it did u stick a straight pipe in the empty cat? if not then yeah, u felt no gain. u probably even lost power because now there is a big opening that screws up the flow. i can guarentee u that cats soak up power. even small high flow ones. on a flow bench the best hf cat out (carsound/magnaflow) was at 285 cfm's. i dont no about u guys, but stock at 8000 rmps, my car is spitting out 240 cfm's of exhaust. with a s/c especially with any mods like smaller pullies, u are flowin more than that. try putting a pipe in ur cat so it is straight flowing. pm if u dont feel a gain.

Any engine runs best with the least amount of back pressure

not when ur turbo...but anyway as far as throwing a code with the gutted cat. try buying spark plug non-fowlers with gaskets. u have to bore the inside of one a little and put that one on the 02 sensor, then put the second one on the first one and screw that into the bung. that should get rid of the sensor.

guys there is so much more than "back pressure" involved at work in an exhaust... i have one word for you guys VELOCITY. tuning a exhaust is far more complicated than seems to be thought here. things like diameter and length and even the shape and angles of the bends all have to do with "flow"
there is no real "backpressure" at work here. and for the record forced induction cars need much larger exhausts than normally aspirated motors do. i run a 4" on my 1000whp car. id go larger if i could fit it on there. take a good look next time at the 4 cyl drag cars. even the normally aspirated ones. are they running a full exhaust??? no. most of them dump right after the turbos. on the normally aspirated cars they do have some form of system on there usually but nothing like even remotly a full exhaust. usually they dunp right after the headers. this battle over backpressure has been waged for years. get a good company involved and ask them. they refer to backpressure as a generalized term. it consists of many more factors than ever get spoke of here.

i can quote many huge names in the industry... i know personally.... on this subject and they will all agree when it comes to exhausts.

You seem to know a lot about exhaust, so i have a question for you. iF there isnt anything as back pressure, then how come on some cars, if you just cut off the muffler you actually lose HP. Me and my friend cut his muffler off his 1.5L Honda Civic, and it ran like ****! What is that from?

He said there is such thing as backpressure but that it is a general term that doesnt describe one particular thing. Its like saying I want alot of NOS, you cant just put it on your car, you have to find the correct setup, tune, etc. Oh and the reason the honda was slower is because it has less displacement than a bottle of Mountain Dew and those engines rely on "backpressure" to move cuz those engines are retarded until they rev up to 7k.

Please stop with the repetative and off topic backpressure discussion.
