Wow, I just looked at the pictures on 1382, seriously, why are you wasting your time trying to make this "streetable"? Theres no way man. Its a damn race car, huge slicks in the back, skinnies in the front, tube chassis. Seriously, its a super comp car. Just put it on a trailer where it belongs

That makes it even sweeter, to be "street legal."

i think the better question is .. why not?

why would you do it? because it's that f'in awesome

plus no car "belongs" on a trailer.. trailer queens and dyno queens are ridiculous... whats the point of having all the power and all that work done if you're only going to run it 1-4 days a month

Nice job, this car looks f'ing amazing.

No real fast car is street legal. Its just gets to that point when you don't give a **** anymore and you drive it on the road anyway.
At some point the cars either to loud or you deleted something on the car that was supposed to be there. When your man enough to take the car to the dmv and have them look at the car and say "Yes that 1000hp car is totally safe for the street". Then its street legal. And make sure you get that on film because i wanna see the inspectors face when he pops the hood.
I'm all about ridiculous fast cars but unfortunately you have to sacrifice something somewhere.

My car will be government inspected in two provinces, both Ontario and British Columbia .

not sacrificing power sacrificing legality. the malibu is nuts def not street legal. able to drive down a street i can see.

[QUOTE=victory_red_SS;2064610]My car will be government inspected in two provinces, both Ontario and British Columbia . :

I'm pretty sure you can't alter a frame and expect that car to be known as a cobalt ss anymore. at some point it becomes a custom. and seat belts are another. most places if you put 5 point harnesses in the car they will strait laugh in your face.

I think that no matter what I answer, you will want to agrue my answer.
My car was a Cobalt SS when I bought it and when according to my VIN, it will always be a Cobalt SS.
The stock seat belts are in fact being retained, simply to pass the Government inspections. All standards required by the provincial inspections, will be met and are taken into account throughout this project. We are not "hoping" to pass the inspections, we are planning and preparing to pass the inspections.
The fact remains that with all the alterations to the frame and the addition of the full rollcage, my "Cobalt SS" is much safer than your's will ever be.

Yes and no.
The plan is to have a cat/down pipe for the street and a catless pipe for the track.
Will this thing pass emissions on the track tune
Then again will I run the track tune on the street

This Extremely long post has both renewed... and shattered my dreams of owning a rwd balt ><. Mainly because it is obviously WAY TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE for me to afford unless i get a good paying job or win the lottery.

Anyway.
AWSOME FRIGGIN CAR MAN! I built my own engine for my 1973 chevy nova, so i kinda know some of the problems you went through, I never had any custom parts made for it though. Anyway, cognrats! and more power to ya! unfortunately i wont be able to make it to the unveiling wherever/whenever that is.... since A: i'm on the west coast(CA) B: i go to school full time and work part time. : and C:..... I don't think i could stop myself from letting out at least a lil splooge on that new paintjob of youres....

Keep on baltin! and when it's done... PLEASE take a video of you kicking a civics ass, just for laughs (even though our balts can do that pretty much stock >_>.) Hell kick a GTR in the ***** as soon as it's on the road!

any way! after reading 82+ pages in 2 hours........ FINALLY! subscribe..

P.s.

If i wanted to do this... but just use the stock motor, and leave everything else pretty much stock (except for the obvious things) how much do you think it would cost?

First, I too live on the west coast, only a couple of days north I believe.
Second, please no splooge on the paint job.
Third, if the plan involves leaving the stock front suspension and not doing the complete rollcage, you could likely use much of the drivetrain from a Sky/Solstice. The downside is this is still not cheap and you are likely better off to trade for the Sky/Solstice.
The expectation is that even on the low side, you will spend $15K.

PS you really read this whole thread??? WOW
