Hi Victory -

Wow - I bet it's like Christmas day every day!

I appreciate your taking pics and posting them for us here - that takes time, but I know I like seeing the dis-assembly pics and hearing your comments.

It takes some nuggets to tear down a new car and mod it agressively.

thanks man!

best regards -

I can't wait to see the results when finished. Maybe one day a long time from now I might be able to afford mods like that. I admire your initiative, hard work, and dedication to do such a project.

1) Exhaust Header was leaking. Assumptions are that the gasket was inadequate or of poor manufacturing. Also, I'm not very impressed with the header design. We'll come up with something different.
2) The supercharger has been removed, there is a huge restriction on the intake manifold.
3) The throttle body is pretty much as good as it will get... It is 68.0mm in diameter, which is close to 70mm. We can probably squeeze and extra 2mm out of it, but find that it is not worth the effort.

In summary, we're gathering data before we take anything else apart. I'd like to try to find improvements every step of the way. Attached is a pic of your engine on the stand. She came from the assembly line stock, now we're taking this mold of clay, and making it into a work of art. "

That would be really nice bit some performance guys, I won't mention your name "Matty", think I am looking at more like 8 weeks before the engine is back where it belongs

that is out right kick ass.

I would like to know more about the restriction of the intake. my friend who is a mechanic says that we will see people scrapping the intercooler all together and putting in a straight intake for some good performance gains. intercooler is for turbos he says. He is an experience drag racer with blower setups.

I don't thing scrapping the intercooler aftercooler setup would be vary wise. drive your car around for ten minutes, then stop your car and feel the supercharger.
damn f'n hot, in fact some of the GM racing cars are swapping out the dual pass aftercooler, to a larger single pass aftercooler, aswell as a larger intercooler mounted infront of the rad. just to cool the charged air more.

Victory
I saw the engine on tuesday, looks good. but yah what a crappy header ( no offence I know it's kinda hard to tell the quality when your ordering based on some pictures and numbers), anyway I know Mev is really excited about doing this build. Curious did you plan on getting anything powder coated or polished, while he's taking it apart?

and don't worry to much about us Toronto guy's we're all to excited to see this build.
did you do a dyno before you sent the engine out?

As soon as we removed the header we could see that it was leaking on both sides. Even the wife said that the quality of the TOG header is the reason TOG went out of business. It is possible that with a proper gasket this header could still work but I will just go with what Mev creates.
As for polishing, Mev is doing a complete show polish of the entire engine. If it can be polished he is going to polish it. It will be a shame to put it under a hood. The wife asked if I was going to leave the hood off . I told her of course.
I did have a couple of dynos done. One with i\e\h and one after stage 2 (which was screwed up). I am really looking forward to the dyno after the tune. I even have someone well respected who is going to do my tuning with HPTuners.
I am really glad that Mev is really excited about doing my engine. I think once it is all done I may have to fly him out to BC so he can take his creation for a drive at the track . I am also glad you guys are close by JBP, because if I can't watch this build at least some Cobalt brethern can I would love to bring the car out that way when everything is done but I am still working on the wife as far as getting a trailer and putting the car on it and then taking a month long trip next year. I have started priming her slowly by telling her that if I get some more sponsors, then I will likely have to attend some shows.
This is going to be exciting process and I will share what I learn with everyone here first.

you'll like Mev, headers, Stainles steel, ALL equal length S design tubing.

I've seen some of his v6 Cavi headers they look pretty crazy.

Mev was telling me about his header and I told him to go for it. I like what he has cooked up for my engine.
Did you manage to get your valve springs\retainers done before the engine showed up?

unfortuneatly not, they didn't show up until Tuesday, same time asyour engine and my new coilover springs.

right now he's making a special tool that will make it easier for him to change the valve spring in the car, so it's kinda good that your engine came, cause making the tool is easier with the engine out, and do the finishing touches and correct length with my engine in car.

don't worry I'll only take about 2-3 hr of his time.

it's my coilovers that take more time, that's of corse after we spend for ever waiting for parts. damn some of his suppliers are slow
all in all Mev's a good guy

Which coil overs are you going with, H&R? 2 or 3 hours Okay, I guess Mev will need to take a break now and again so working on your valves will clear his mind so it is all good I guess that with all the things Mev can do when my engine is out, then we all benifit. Perhaps I can now get donations from those who will end up unblocking their intake, or use the new tool, or buy a totally perfect fitting header Thanks for allowing the fitament to be done on your car as that also helps the rest of us.

I was also considering starting a 50-50 pool for when everyone thinks the engine will be done. My wifes daughter has done this with the impending birth of her baby and made a cool $250.

I got the JBP Coil Overs I'm the tester car (were trying different things to keep making them better), and he's going to use both our cars to make the tool to change the valve springs, (you engine for the tool end, and mine for proper hight and monting point).
