as for unblocking the intake Saturn motorsports made a big bore throttle body for the Ion, which opened up the diameter a bit, I believe someone else on the forum got it installed on there cobalt (not 100% sure), but it mat be one more thing to consider.

edit: here's a link SMS throttle body

it's about 3mm larger then the stock one. maybe Mev can make one to.

he's not switching engines, he sent his engine to JBP to get Beefed up, and rebuilt into an ecotec monster
then he's putting the modified engine back in his car

one of our moderators on this board from AZ has this installed withi his Psi Fi Kit. He said if anything it only yielded less then 3-5whp. It's not worth it. All they did was do a slight bore of the TB (polished if anything) and put there company logo on the inlet flap. Not extactly steallar if you ask me.

player_1 is correct. It will be a monster and not only will this monster eat some of the big boys out there it will\does also eat money, what a hungry bugger too
As for the Edmonton boys, my car will be there this summer as I still have family living there and I will be coming to race one of my brothers

that's just it, there really isn't much more restriction other then this part, Mev is already porting the intake manifold and the supercharger, and valvetrain.

what else is there?

Seems for the cost vs benifit of enlarging the TB we are better off not doing the TB but I am not yet sure what Mev wants to do about the restriction considering that was mentioned in line 2 not line 3. I anticipate we will hear soon what Mev comes up with.

They should count, because technically you should have time to re-start and still catch him.

well i hope you get yours sooner than a few people that i know are still waiting for theirs

also rip the motor apart and go over it with a fine tooth comb , before you install it and run it , there has been a couple of motors they did for the J-body crowd , that ended up making odd noises

and on tear down for inspection , for the wrist pins were sliding side to side and hitting the cylinders

I had not actually heard these kind of reports about JBP before. I was even talking to Aaron at TTR and he gave them a big thumbs up. I am also confident that Mev and the guys at JBP are going to be the ones going over this with a fine tooth comb because they have a magazine following the complete build, so this engine means lots of publicity for JBP and the work they do.

well the extra distraction from the photo guys wont help

im not sure how many motors they have built , and sold i just know a couple went belly up with the same problem , but i will say i havent heard anything lately , other than people still waiting on motors

i really hope yours comes out perfect , and you never have any problem

and i will say go over the motor before you put it in , i would personally do it with any rebuilt motor

id still say the same even if i didnt know about any pervious issues with any company , it comes from the better safe than sorry school

I stand by my prediction...and it in no way suggests JBP is inadequate, simply I have been through 3 major engine teardowns\ rebuilds and it never goes according to plan. Little things always arise.

Just a question. has cooling been addressed? I find that some cobalts run hot. Just wondered if this has been considered in your planning .

We haven't talked about that yet but they are just getting started and we will do somethings after other parts are done, presenting other concerns, such as cooling. I will keep you informed on how we deal with cooling as the project progresses.

Just curious, why you did not choose a crate engine to get the work done on ?

Cost ?

I dion't see the reasoning in buying a crate engine ( the same as what I have) and remove the very parts I am changing. I already own the engine so I'll spend the money on making it what I want. Now if there was a crate engine that was built the way I am building my engine then that would be a different story.

I give you credit for about a billion times more patience than me though, there is no way I would be able to be without my car for that long.

Thanks for reminding me about not having my car to drive
Seriously, when I go into the garage and see her all torn apart I just tell her that she is going to be so happy when I finally get her back on the road.
Then as I drive my wifes 4dr Sunfire I see all the cars I want to race and I think soon I will be out to play again.
Then honestly not driving my car really sucks
