Water pump 2.0 LSJ

The dealer told me i need a new water pump and it was going to cost me 750...i went on the web found and ordered this one for 70 bucks




then i was browsing around and i found this




since i dont know what is that on the second one and if i have a leak in my water pump did i really need the second one..?

Any help you could provide would be great!

it shows the chain gear on the second one.

i would suggest getting one of these as well



also taking the exhaust manifold off is helpfull to get the coolant pipe out of the way

i bought the first one....can i still use the first one or do i need to buy the second one with the chain gear..?

you can reuse the stock gear. that is what the tool is for.

it holds the gear and chain in place, then you remove the WP off the back side and line the new pump up with the bolt holes in the gear being held with the tool.

google Ecotec Water Pump Tool... the one shown is a Lisle brand, which is what i use

this will save you lots of time and avoid a fight with the balance shaft timing chain

ok ...i havent opened it up is there a way i cant tell if they stock gear is messed up too or is that a open it and find out ?

unless you jumped a tooth it wont be messed up.

Just take you time and goes easy when working on getting the WP bolts out, and everything will be good, also make sure you get a WP gasket

how can u tell if u "jumped a tooth " maybe a stupid question..but id rather ask so i know ?

doubt it did, if the pump is just leaking there is nothing to worry about.

another suggestion is to get the oring that goes on the coolant pipe as well, that way you are prepared,

Does the the timing chain and Themostat need to be changed out when you change the water pump? Someone told me it did...trying to bounce it off the fourms here since the information here is usallt good info

The timing chain does not.....however, if you never changed your thermostat and are changing the water pump it is a good best practice to change the thermostat. This way you only open the system once and only need to purchase coolant once.
