I was wondering what I would have to do to lose 500 pounds off my car.

Ditch all unnecessary interior. Ditch spare tire. Remove rear speakers. Remove A/C. Remove all sound deadning material. Lighter wheels. every 10 lbs of rotational mass is about equal to 100 lbs of stationary mass. Lightened flywheel. Remove bumper supports.

my best track weight to date is 2734, and that was with half a tank. and not everything out that i wanted to be out. i could probably get it down to close to 2300, but its gonna cost quite a bit

Damn so aiming for 2500 would not be that hard at all. I was thinking carbon hood and trunk remove rear seats and passenger seat. Get a racing seat. Light weight weight tires and bolts for the tires. ac delete. Spare tire delete. Lose 30 pounds my self lol! But I have to keep the radio.

It's not going to be easy. You may want lexan windows and a light weight battery. It's a lot of weight you're trying to lose.

Then would 300 pounds be more realistic for small pockets?

250-300 I think could be done on a reasonable budget.

no, weight reduction, beyond removing things, gets very technical AND expensive. i was talking to a company that makes cf parts for cars and they said between 6-7k for cf: hood, trunk, roof, both doors, fenders, front/side/rear lip....

and if you want to go farther than stripping down the interior, start machining EVERYTHING possible out of a lightweight aluminum, or any other material thats lighter than what it already is made out of.

i plan on doing a full sheetmetal interior, carbon fiber every body panel possible, and start machining parts.. btw, i work at a machine shop with 3 DIFFERENT types of CNC's, many many many sheetmetal tools and machines, and everything else i'ld need to do all this

like i said before, its gonna get expensive fast if you're serious about this. i got down to 2734 by just removing the pass seat, rear seat, rear seat rests, rear headrests, rear seat belt clips(the ones bolted to the floor), sub, spair, carpeting on sides of trunk, "floor" of trunk. you can also, depending on your track rules, take out your driver headlight and 4 of your 5 tail lights

I dont think 500 is realistic.. with some super light wheels. carbon fiber hood/trunk. remove the rear seats, spare tire, passenger seat, etc. that will still be no where near 500

I'm suprised nobody said lightweight racing seats. I know the power leather seats in my 07ss/sc gotta weigh a ton.

If you take 500 pounds out, you might as well call it a drag car, it would be too uncomfortable to drop 500 pounds of dead weight and still have a comfortable street car.
