Well.... had a problem this morning!

While getting off the highway on my usuall morning jaunt home.... I turn off the highway get on to my road to head towards home, shift from first into second, hit a slick patch in the road RPM's obviouslly skyrocket and BOOM "ENGINE PWR REDUCED" light comes on and my car dies. I try to start it several times tries to kick over really hard, and nothing, I do this about 5 times and finally just starts like normal with an "SOLID CHECK ENGINE LIGHT"....

WTF? I have never had a problem like this I baby my car it drove home fine.

I get out and listen to the exhaust sounds normal, check under the hood nothing seems out of the ordinary, dip stick is down, S/C sounds fine, pull off the oil cap just the normal air comming through.

EGT gauge was at 1175* (which is normal for my car while driving at idle it's around 800-900*) Highway cruising it's between 1200-1275*

I'm kinda stumped it seems to be running fine now any ideas? Or did me bouncing off the revlimiter cause it to freak out?

AREA47 we need to check it out buddy!

Could the CEL just be a result of going into power reduction, and just needs clear?

My car has done this 2 times over the course of 70K miles , 1st time at WOT in first and the other was just normal acceleration . Its like a completely random freak poltergiest . Ive never been able to come to a conclusion because after a couple minutes the cars always fired up and been normal as can be . Both times set a random misfire code 0300 . It has not done this at all since I switched to a LT1 maf about 15K miles ago ......no clue though if the maf had thing to do with it . I would think not.

You may have over revved the car and it shut down. I've had my car do that before. Did you get another yellow light that flashed quickly when it happened that you've never seen before with it? If the car is running fine, just pull the code to check it out and clear it. Your car will probably be fine it just tried to save the engine and did just that. Listen closely to it and drive normal for a bit, then slowly but surely open her up a bit again.

Yeah, I am just hoping I didn't really **** it all up! I truely trust Area47s tunes and dont' think that has anything to do with it, but I won't know untill I get the code read though!

should be ok, if you bang the car off the limiter (well I mean slam it into it) the car will shut itself off like that and the CEL is probably the infamous P0068 for the Red eng pwr crap. Just clear it and you should be fine.... don't slam into the rev limiter anymore lol

Anytime I've seen a car hit engine power reduced (limp home mode) was because of a maf-map correlation problem (cough cough tuner ), a defective SCIP or TPS sensor or a leaking induction pipe. If you hit the rev limiter you probably bumped the MAF fail frequency and hit a MAF cell that wasn't possible to hit (and therefor calibrate) when your tuner calibrated the MAF. This probably threw your MAF to MAP correlation out of whack during that MAF cell and caused the power reduced.

I would put a dollar on the light being on for either p0068 (maf-map correlation) or p0103 (MAF frequency too high). Either one will eventually clear the light.

Get it scanned anyway.

i also had this problem little after i had my 2.9" installed last summer..pulled 2nd gear and shifted slowely to 3rd and continue to 3rd and around 110mph or so,car like jerked and the same message appeared and engine light came up...had same problems like u...tryed startin the car cpl times it wouldnt start, and finally after 4 trys it came on and idle'd perfectly fine, and engine tone was exactly the same as before...only problem was the light was on,reseted the ecu,and it has yet to come on after a shitload of mods have been thrown onto the car..

my conclusion...ecu might have skipped something during the WOT process and than realized it messed up,so it killed the power so nothin gets damaged, but after cpl min's it goes back to normal

Could also be the crank sensor. Its happened to many other cobalts and in most of them it was the crank sensor being defective.

And there is a foam in the top of the cap! Exhaust has a very sweet smell to it...

I'm guessin' popped head gasket!

I called my GM tech buddy and I pulled out the dip stick and the oil is fine there...

Edubs... that is the same word that came out of my mouth too!

Car starts perfectly... engine light is still on! But I'm at a loss now!

sorry dub i just woke up lol...

so lemme gets this right u hit ice or a slick spot and ur rpms spiked and slapped red line or just spiked rough??

do u have engine and tranny mounts? the first time i tuned my car and went to a 2.7 with 60s i went for my test and scan and when i got home i revved it pretty hard being happy and same thing happen pwr reduce mode "limp mode"

i threw p0336 crankshaft position sensor a performance... which i narrowed down to being my mounts.

I would say its one of those "omg what the **** you doing to me" codes that temp scares ur car
...but i would have bryan scan it and look into it more without the code we really cant say what it is

Nah, its okay man.

I hit a section of ice at like 35 in 2nd gear spun up (don't know how high exactly just took my foot off the gas), CEL flashed "REDUCED ENGINE PWR) light came on. I got it turned around the corner, tried starting it 4-5 times on the next time it started right up like nothing was wrong.

I just started it, woke right up, but the exhaust smells funny and there is foamy **** (creamy in color) on the top of the oil cap. But none on the dipstick!

MY GM tech buddy is going to come out here on his lunch with a scanner and see what it says!
