what do the 2.9's do?
This is from Cobalt-addiction
CA SS GM STAGE 2 Replacement 2.79" Pulley
http://cobalt-addiction.com/performance.htm
This 2.79" pulley will fit the GM Stage 2 hub - It is made out of 6061 Billet Aluminum and Hard Anodized for wear resistance - There is 77.9 MM engraved on the face making it look like the stock 3" GM Pulley - It is CNC machine to 0.001" accuracy and designed to withstand high RPM - The side walls of the pulley are 77.9MM or 3 in diameter - The top of the groove has a diameter of 2.79 . These have been proven to run great on the GM stage 2 reflash as it is very rich fuel wise to start with and this will bring you right into the correct AFR . Will bump you up to 17.5psi !!!!!

be careful with the 2.8" pulley
depending on your altitude, tune, and other factors you could run into complications.... with the gm stage 2 tune the injectors can have a very high IDC (injector duty cycle) at high rpm... the injectors go static (have no control) around 120%... just make sure you get the necessary gauges to monitor your car... a different tune can really help to maximize your cars potential.
it is not guarenteed that you will run into problems because every car is different... so far the 2.9" has been proven to be safe and the 2.8" is a very fine line...

Nate's 2.9 is an awesome pulley. he sells them for $50 for the standard and $55 for the high polished (which i bought). I did notice a little extra kick going from the stage 2 pulley to the 2.9. Boost for me reads around 17psi
Ignore all the people telling you to go with a 2.8X pulley. Without monitoring and possible tuning, your just asking for problems. 2.9" is far safer (notice I said safer, since even a 2.9" is not 100% safe). And *NO* the stage 2 pulley is not 3". It is 3.07", so closer to 3.1" then 3" flat. The stage 3 pulley is the 3" pulley (actually 2.99").
And as stated earlier, Nate's pulleys are $50 normal and $55 for the polished, which looks oh so pretty.

At least do the supporting mods before the 2.9. That's what I did.
Intake and full exhaust before the 2.9 along with a tune afterwards.
I saw this and I have I/H/E. The stage 2 will be ging in soon. So after that, the 2.9 or the 2.8 should be ok eh?
So will NATE 2.9 pully fit on the hub that came with the GM Stage 2
Anyone have the link to nates i am considering to get one like soon

All this talk of smaller pulleys and no one has mentioned any cooling mods?

Although, if you get a free-er flowing exhaust before upping the boost, this will help in cooling due to the easier expelled exhaust gasses and less pressure build up. I have a 3" catback and with my 2.9" pulley, i'm still only seeing slightly over 15psi max boost. Before my 3" catback i was seeing over 16 psi only with the 3" pulley.
Well, Crate Engine Depot explains that the gm stage 3 pulley which is 2.99" is the lowest you should go before doing cooling mods. I bought a 2.9" Nate pulley and i am planning on doing a dual pass which should be sufficient enough to keep from heatsoaking and what not.

well, i haven't had any problems yet, but i still wouldn't do a bunch of runs in a row. Intake supposedly promotes extra pressure build up too, but its negligible to what a nice exhaust headers and dp will help do.
