What to do? Stage kits or Turbo?
What to do? Stage kits or Turbo?
What sgould I do:1) Go with GM Stage 2 w/2.8 pulley.
2) Go with Cobalt Addiction Stage 4.
3) Wait for Hahn Racecraft to come out with full turbo.
3) Wait for Hahn Racecraft to some out with twincharge kit.
Just so you know, you're going to get all types of "do this" and "do that" answers.
My answer to you is don't do anything till you figure out what you want from the car.
There are so many questions that I could ask you so you can think about what you're doing.
As far as the stage kits, they are pretty straight forward but do you understand how what is happening as far as the supercharger and how your intake air temperatures (IATs) are effecting your motor? Do you have a way of monitoring things? Are you planning on upgrading your aftercooling system or cooling system in general?
As far as the turbocharger setup:
Are you doing this custom or a kit?
Do you understand how a turbosystem works completely (or atleast the basics)?
Do you have a way of monitoring things?
Would you know what to do if something was to go wrong?
Do you have the means to have parts replaced or to keep it maintained?
I could go on but I won't. If you could answer those questions...that'd be good.

put it this way gm stage 2 you can get away with stock parts such as axels clutch and stuff like that CA stage 4 u also may be able to get away with it but then turbocharging the car or Twincharging the car you may have to go further and get them supporting mods to go along with that
sooooo many threads on this stuff. How much cash do you have? Get a realistic picture of what you are thinking of doing. Stage 2 cost is like $800-1200 total installed.
Every other option is going to cost you the initial kit cost, tuning costs, and then supporting modifications. If you have the spare few thousand laying around for all of this, more power to you. Just remember, clutch, axles, suspension mods, gauges, tuning, etc...
You have to calculate all of that in if you are going to truly do it right....
Or you can just slap it on there and go to town, I'll be looking for your blown motor thread in the near future then. (Im being a smartass, but seriously, take time to do it right.)

Money aside , what do want for your car ? So many people dont ask themselves that before jumping in . What are your long range goals ? Do I want a tune it and forget it daily driver ? Are u willing to sacrafice a lil reliablity and ease of operation for more HP and TQ . If you go turbo , to you have someone thats knowledgeable enuff to tune it , because going Turbo , the guy tuning the PCM is gonna be thee absolute most important aspect of the swap .
I'll give some generic recommendations . Personally I would avoid the twincharge thing all together . I dont understand the desire there , as a properly selectled Turbo only set-up will kill it :shrugs: If u wish to make over 300 hp/tq to the wheels and want room to easily expand downt he road ....at this point anyways( that may or may not change) , I would be looking into Turbo set up . The other side of the coin .....if ya just want to make the car qwicker without getting crazy, sticking with any of the staged kits on the market would be a good choice for you .
A think about stage 2 with 2.8 . For the money your gonna spend I wouldnt do that . Stg. 2 is very nice gain in itself with the 3" pulley . But the only way I would go with it , is if I wanted to preserve the warranty ~or did not want to deal with core charges on the aftermarket tuning for the PCM . Throw the 2.8 pulley your gonna have to buy in addition to the GM stg2 , at that point why not go with somthing like an intense stage 3 , with better tuning and 2.8 already ? Or Cobalt addiction equivelent , I dont know how there kits are staged , but u get what Im getting at .
The GM kits should be dummy proof tuning wise( they pretty much have to be since GM preserves the warranty) , but outside that ....I hope you have or at least plan on purchasing a scan tool or scan guage , so you know whats going on with your new combo . I have no clue the mods u already have , before you mod anything at all that adds power . Invest in items to control wheel hop ....CABS , lower trans mounts , motor mount or a the very least , a torque brace . When you start adding power to these cars wheel hop get quite ridiculous , and if u let it happen too much , it CAN break and axle , and it CAN crack your transmission core .
Do your homework man , theres alot of people that seem to be jumping in and modding the **** out their cars and are making costly mistakes and wondering what the hell happened .

Basically what he said, just think before you buy anything and just research, research, RESEARCH! If you have any questions, just ask.
