What should I do? (Thread about Intakes)

Should I buy an aftermarket CAI and get it installed, or should I do the airbox mod? I'm skeptical about aftermarket CAI since the CEL came on on a ton of people... I don't know what to do at this point... I got a 06 SS-SC. Thanks all!

if you're worried about a CEL, then don't mod your car... people have gotten it from the airbox mod as well. i took off the resonator, and never got a CEL though, just like lots of people don't have a CEL with a cai

Denny knows what he is talkign about I talked to my service manager at GM and he said that's the best way to go as it won't void the warranty. I have also done a lot of reading on the AEM and it's the way I'm going to go after I get married and do the honeymoon.

first you should search lol jk. Plenty of pro's and cons about both methods. I don't like the air box mod cause I would rather keep a stock air box just in case anything happends. However you do save a lot of money. If money isn't a concern go with the AEM, it's pretty much the airbox mod, and it still looks stock unless the dealer tears it apart, but it cost a pretty penny for 1/8 of a real cold air intake. Injen has the best gains usually but has fitment issues, but they are said to be fixed now, but there's a dimple at the top of the tube which looks ghetto. Haven't heard too much about the Fujita or JPB but you can probably search for those.

If you're worried about voiding your warranty don't mod it's that simple. Otherwise I'd go with the Injen mainly because I wanted the whine and a little bit to dress her up under the hood.

Not true

There maybe be no oil from the filter itself but the hose running from the back of the crankcase to the nipple on the intake piping will sometimes drip oil through there. That oil will drip onto the MAF sensor and can damage it. Sometimes people need to just take electrical cleaner and spray it on there, but if it is damaged, it isn't under warranty. There is a TSB out there for Chevy/Saturn dealerships that if they have an aftermarket intake and the MAF gets damaged by any oil, then they won't cover it under warranty.

That is correct!
I did lots of research before I decided on the AEM. Actualy all the parts I choose for my car are very carefully selected. Check my reviews and you will see that I take my time and I am also very carefull about doing any mods that are going to hurt my engine. Check Frontpage news for my latest review.

The GM service Tech bulletin is about OILED filters like the K&N that will gum up your MAF sensor. The Hose for the crankcase is further up on the Intake and far from the MAF sensor, It will take a long time before it dirty's the MAF sensor trust me. But there is nothing wrong in cleaning the MAF once in a while as a yearly maintenance.

If I can ask, where and how do you clean the MAF sensor? Where is it located? Can I do it or someone certified must do it? Do I have to unbolt anything lol ??

Check my "How to install" and you will see where it is and how to remove it.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-guide-43/how-install-aem-intake-your-cobalt-ss-sc-23779/

You can buy a special "spray cleaner" at almost any auto parts store, that will clean the MAF sensor.
