?What temp does H/E pump
Any one know @ what temperature does the h/e exchanger pump turn on. It runs off a relay, so I am assuming something, maybe the ecu tells it when to circulate the coolant. It was easily in the 80's here today, I have the factory h/e, cobra h/e and hatricstu's cooling mod. I swear that the pump won't turn on while I watch it idle. Every part of the system is easily touchable by hand. I can jump the pump in the fuse/relay box and I know it works. Any ideas? Thanks again

its always on as soon as you start the car, unless you turn it on with hpt to turn on with the key on engine off
you need the hatrickstu hammer mod

ok i don't mean to thread jack but i have a quick question. i have a 2.2 that im going to be supercharging pretty soon. well supposedly the stage 2 belt with the stock ss/sc belt is supposedly the perfect fit on the 2.2. so my question now is that will these cooling mods benefit me since im not going to be boosting high and i don't plan to but i would like to be efficient and may be get some better MPG.
also to the OP is the fuse your talking about the aftercooler relay and fuse? if so then i have another question. do you guys think i can use the OEm spot to wure in the pump for my setup that im goign to be using?

Late night bump for you late nighters...lol. lil kano, yes, the relay is for the pump, but off hand i don't remember which one exactly. I will look when its light out. As for cooling mods, any cooling mod will benefit, no matter the boost level. They are all in the name of cooler air for a cooler intake charge. If the fuse blocks are the same, i would assume that the location of the relay would be the same. As for wiring harness, I am clueless.

So at startup it wasn't working? What about after driving?
I tried the hammer mod and I have still yet to feel any movement from the pump but I have only tried it seconds after I crank the car. I waited a good minute but nothing.

it works with rpms...if you don't see the coolant hualing ass in the bottom of the t neck you need a new pump...and yes these pumps suck it happend to me and about 500 hundred others;;;ebays sells a replacment for like 90buck it the rousch for the f150
its been working great for me and put out about 4 more gallons per minute which really helps with second H/E

ok, so I ran home on the E way this after noon, a/c on and I needed fuel....I pull into the station and left it run, popped the hood and..NOPE...no ciculation. Its 87* out & both fans are running, a/c still on. So, I switched the smokin' ass hot a/c compressor relay for the h/e relay and it kicked on, and the a/c clutch worked with the h/e relay in its place...they are the same part# relay, side by side in the box. I drive home, made a short 2nd gear pull up to speed limit and then pop the hood, its still running. I shut down the car, started it imediately back up and the pump never turned back on. WTF!!!!!!!! Any more ideas guys?

FIXED, relay wasn't making contact. Tweaked the tabs and GOOD TO GO! And the pump runs constantly and starts up within 5 seconds of starting the engine. Thanks again everyone.

hey i had this problems for probably years and didnt know it. today i was playing around with it forever and no avail. until i came on here and decided to tap it with a wrench and voilah water guhsing like niagra. and lil particles that were black in my coolant at the T. so good altogether sucks that so many cobalts are diseased like this. i bought a cobra heat exchanger well over a year ago and probbably never had the pump working. WTF. thanks all.

Common for the 04 and some of the 05 redlines as the wiring for the pump was backward from the factory (I believe it was the electrical harness). Otherwise you should get 50k miles out of one; they are actually pretty good for a factory pump.
You can use any 12 volt water pump as a replacement. There are some pumps that push more than the bosch pump such as the jabsco water puppy (I believe they have pumps that move 12gpm-stock is 9gpm) just there might be problems with leaking at the inlet and outlet plumbing as it's not going to be one piece. Using a higher flow pump would likely result in lower operating temperatures and less heatsoak but don't quote me.
