Whats Wrong(SS S/C)
Whats Wrong(SS S/C)
Alright, I picked up my arrival blue 2006 SS S/C about a week and a bit ago, I have put about 530 miles on it, and it came with 150 already on it, I have not really babied it all, I hit the throttle as much as I can when there are zero cars to be seen and the road is flat and clear, so i can say I drive it hard for about 10 mins a day max. NOW heres the question as I scroll through my things I notice im getting 15 MPG.. I am confused, as it said 24 city i beleive? and im not in traffic alot. Will it progress? Did I do something wrong? just curiouse! thanks guys
The harder you drive the more fuel you burn. I use the same... Shell 93 Octant, V-Power... and I fill up on about $28.00 and fill up about 3 times a week. Lol. That should tell you how hard I drive my car!

My sugestion is use the highest test gas you can, change the oil and put in valvoline synpower, royal purple or amsoil for i have noticed the best milage out of these oils. and as stated above let the car warm up a little bit in the morning before you go

when you use your windshield defroster (like in the cavalier) your cars ac pump is turned on. i forget what is called but they say mixing the cooler air and the hot gives you the best mixture for defrosting your windshield. my cavalier did it and my gas mileage would deff. go down. and with my ss i can deff. tell a difference.
yeah I beat on my car a lot more than anyone around here and if i stay outta boost for a whole trip i can get back about.2-.3 mpg gallon back. try not racing around for a couple of days and you'llbe getting 18 mpg plus city with out a problem. I actually got mine to get to 21 city but than i raced around for one night with my crew and droped back down to 16.1 mpg
Reset your fuel economy and drive real nice for a day or so and you will see how good these can be on fuel. I did while gas prices were up and was quite impressed ( not near as much fun to drive though ). There is nothing wrong with you car . Your question reminded me of a question a I asked the dealership when I got my first car ( I was 18).
My question......" What is wrong with my windsheild wipers, they do not work worth a **** over 90 mph ?". Yes I really said that .

In the winter since I havent had the chance to beat on mine , the average has consistently been 26-28 mpg .
Like has been said more than a few times , haha . Reset the mpg . Once you get it that low , like the 15 you said it was reading . It takes alot of driving to bring that average back up . If you reset it while your driving , it basically shows real time mpg until a average can be set . Ive reset mine on the highway before and had it stay over 40 mpg , until got back into normal driving and it came back down to normal .
Im surprised how accurate it is , it usually always corrolates with how many miles I get out a tank of gas . Typically the economy meters in most cars are a joke .

I know why it says 15MPG it's because your punching it go on the FWY and drive 70 MPH then put it in cruise and reset the MPG thats your highway then go 40mph on the street set cruise and reset it go more than a mile or so in both cases and you'll see what you do on streets and hwy if you drive consistently now go to a stop reset the MPG and gun it drive fast and give it alot of gas and thats what you get when you mess around I got 15 when I race from 40-140 3 races amd the MPG came back to about 14.6MPG. I get 29-33 HWY and 20-23 on the streets thats with stops and lights and traffic and things like that
Nice to know you finally got it, now i don't own an s/c but i know when i put in low octane i get bad gas milage, but when i put in a much higher, good golly 10.9L to 100km as when i put in 87octane 11.9L per 100k and i get better milage even if I gun it now! but then again i drive a 2.4L... By the way were canadian, we go km's not miles, just kidding... Later
