Not any point in tuning it without parts.

You need atleast bigger injectors to make it worth getting a tune.

Tuning is also usually EXPENSIVE, not cheap.

I tuned my 88 S-10 Blazer by adding new chips to it and I ended up with 15 extra horses and the truck is completely stock.

I am assuming that a Tune would change the timing curve and throw more fuel and air to the engine by utilizing the stock components. I just want to gain as much as possible by using the stock components not by changing anything, as the car is a lease and I don't want to change any major components such as fuel injectors and pulleys.

But thanks for your input though. I would like to change those parts but I don't want to drop that sort of dough. I think the tune alone would be a better deal.

I'll have to agree with Psykostevo, you won't really gain much hp at all by tuning a stock Cobalt. And tuning isn't really all that cheap as well. Not sure where Yonkers, NY is located, but there is Cobalt Addiction in NYC to get tuned, other than that not sure where else would be close for you to go.

a day at a professional dyno tuner can cost you a good $400+

Yeah, you are looking at a minimum of $200+ to get a tune done (Thats if you can find somebody cheap to do it - usually you are looking at at least $400 for a good dyno tune) and at best you may be able to pull 15 to 20 HP - AT BEST! It really isn't going to be worth the money.

The tuning will cost you more per HP than many of the mods available to you.

Not true you can add timing maps. That will get you another 10 HP

But why go for the 10hp, when you could buy just injectors, THEN get the tune, and take the extra ~36hp and 500 rpms. Might as well drop the $200.00 on the injector setup before most other mods.

And watch out for the intakes. Some of them can throw your MAF off so bad that you will be unhappy until you get a retune.

Best bet is to plan what mods you want to do in the long run and then figure out what order you would like to purchase them in.

Honestly, you can't really just throw more timing at the SS to achieve horsepower, most of them are pushing their limits as they are as far as Knock Retard.

Thanks for all of your inputs, I decided just to go with the Stage 1 Kit.
I feel that it gives me more Bang for the Buck. I am going to buy it through Crate Engine Depot, Its only like $400.00. Not too bad. My limit was $500.00 so I am still under budget.
I had an Intake on my car but it threw alot of error codes I think It was th MAF. I took it off in a month. If your wondering which one it was an AEM CAI. I installed NGK plugs 1 step colder already and I added the K&N a while back.

Now the only problem I have is getting it installed. I just have to find the right dealership to do it. All the ones around me are Ripoffs. Probably going to have to go for a Drive Upstate to get it done. People are alot nicer the further you go upstate in NY.

Did you install your Intake your self?

If so you should have no problems installing the stage 1 also.
then just take it to the dealership for the flash.

I take it that you dont care about warranty as you are willing to re-tune your ECM, so why not do the instal your self?

The how to's floating around here are very helpful!

I also would either recommend stage 2, or a supporting vendor stage kit.
Just a thought. I think CED is like 565 shiiped for stage two.

Do some shopping around, and good luck!

wait now... don't say no power on stock. I've pulled almost 20 whp on a stock cobalt and put mine in the 13's with just a tune. BTW I only charge $125 for a tune. PM a few people running my super stock tune. Darksun, 95cobra68camaro (rob), Steve (cjbadblackss), and a few others.. ctcobaltss is running one of my tunes, and vmann81 also. PM them for info

oh yeah I'm also in Queens right by the throggs neck bridge.

i think new era performance parts, which is one of our sponsors is located in NY. check with them see if they got any good packages that include tuning that might yield to more power than GM stage 1 kit. getting a dyno tune will yield to more hidden power. and it will make sure your car is running right nor pinging or knocking. go w/ a dyno tune rather than the staged kits from gm. hit up new era they are verry good and know there stuff.
