Whipple Sucks

I have talk to Steve (Owner)a couple times & he stated there is just not a big enough market for a replacement SC on the Cobalt as he manufactures stand alone systems to be added to a cars or trucks for people who want more power.
In doing so they make the kits to runs safely for long term motor life with out replacing internals.
To build a replacment SC for the cobalt you would want more boost than the stock SC or why buy it? So the motor would not hold up unless you rebuilt the motor & then the Whipple SC would be semi expensive & with the motor needing built to there just is no market for any company to produce a replacement blower for a CS car that is already running close to it's limits.
I had a Whipple on my Tahoe & I talked to Steve alot before I purchased as it costed $4500 then the rearend and tranny needed beefed up as with added power you always create a weak link & mine was the two listed, I had close to $10,000 into added parts to insure motor & drive train life!
I think he could sell a few whipples for the Cobalt but after new tooling & casting to make one he would not recover his costs & lets face it how can any company stay afloat if they lose money?
It all makes sence when you look at it from the Company owners prospective after all is said & done

CobaltSS313 I have an idea if you put up the tooling & die costs I bet Steve might be willing to make them
Sorry CobaltSS313 but I really think Steve has built a great company with a great product & when I saw this tread my jaw dropped????

i meant it sucks that they are not making a supecharger that will fit our car. all the cobra and gt guys, christ even the GTPs get support from them so why not us, you know why?, because were 4 cylinders and they dont want to look bad. Is utter bullshit. I'll do whatever i have to to my motor to put a whipple on it. Most people who put an aftermarket supercharger on their car of this caliber dont use it just to go back and forth to the grocery store.
no... because those cars can all use almost identical setups with just different lower intakes... our cars are a completly different setup... I would love to put a whipple in this thing after I do the motor... but for right now... just try and maximize what you got.,.. so much more potential in these cars besides more boost... cams... ported head... exhaust... I haven't seen any one do it yet... I feel a lot to be gained by going this route... thats my next thing... I want to maximize out everything from the factory and see what I can do with it before spending thousands of dollars on parts I may not need.

Ummm....GTP's do not have direct support from whipple. Tom the owner of Animul Performance makes the whipple kits for those cars and sells em through various vendors. I've talked to Tom and asked if he would make one, he said that the current issue is the smalles whipple blower the 140ax is still to large, and if whipple ever came out with a smaller one down the line then he would consider it.

I was going to go with the 100AX, and I had been in talks with Tom from Animal performance to do it. Once he e-mailed Whipple and found out that they have no release date for the 75AX or 100AX, we scrapped it. But Tom did say he would've done one for me had there been a blower available. When tax returns come, I think I'll look into Kenne Bell next.

Unfortunatly they will not release the W75AX. I have been trying to convince them to but the problem is we would be virtually the only application for that size s/c. The GTP's use the same size s/c as the SVT Cobras. They have a larger spectrum to sell too for the larger s/c, where most small car tuners go the route of turbo.
Kenne Bell has already stated that they will only release thier chargers in thier kits and will not do custom applications. They have one use for the 1.33L (a modified 1200AX) on a 4.0L Jeep and will only sell it for the Jeep.
I've been trying to build a twin screw kit for us for a few months now, but I can't seem to find a company that has both the s/c needed and the will to work with me or our community.

guys don't waste your money unless the sole reason for your project is a show car, or a "look at what i got on my car" type project. you will spend a massive amount of money getting everything running right, and the gains will be alot less than a turbo, and the turbo will be cheaper.
me and rob talked about this in pretty good detail yesterday at his shop.

With a 3.1 you could hit 22psi easily once again with no lag. The Whipple would have been an amazing bolt on. I had it all planned to use the stock intake manifold/IC and be able to use the stock intake or any CAI that was already purchased unlike a custom turbo where you would have to replace the header, DP, Exhaust, IC, HE, and create room and plumbing for the FMIC.
and with that 35 psi on the whipple, you could use 25 psi on a turbo and make the same if not more power.
<edit> anyways, don't most of the whipples top out at 30 psi? ours would only go to 24 psi.

I looked into it, it would cost roughly ~$1500 ish for the whipple, and about another $1000.00 to have custom adapters made. You honestly could get the job done for around ~$2500.00.It could be more since everything would be custom, but it could be less if we had like 10 people do it. Yes a turbo kit could be done for the same, but you've got to remember that some people want to stay supercharged and hate lag. Using a 100AX, I could probably swap my stock blower with the whipple, and make 20+ psi with a 3.25" or bigger pulley. I'd free up a ton of parasitic loss, have lower IAT2's, and make a bunch more power, while keeping my blower whine and having no lag.

In all honesty guys, the best thing we can do is get atleast 5 serious people, contact Tom with Animul, and Steve with Whipple. Tell them we want 100ax's, and design a kit. Then, other guys could buy the kit from Tom at Animul.

ummm we just did it to my car, and i can assure you, that it will be much more than $2500. if i was a guessing man, i would say more along the lines of $4000, and that's not including any engine work you will need to do so your car doesn't end up blown up like mine. and the cost of the kit, compared to the gains were nothing like what a turbo would do, that's why the shop has scrapped the project and we're going turbo

i would even go out on a limb and say with 24 psi on the whipple you will probably be in a range of 327whp on a mustang dyno(with higher revs).... but that's just a crazy guess
<edit> but remember, to run that setup safely, you will have to build your engine up a bit, or you will be in the same boat as i am.
