Either a LSJ or LE5 crank applies to the following. If you remove the crank trigger, underneath there is said to be the same crank trigger the j-body eco's have casted into the crank. Someone on the HPT forums claimed there is, and we would like to confirm this.

Bump - this is a possibly huge development.

On a related topic, what keeps LSJ guys from swapping an entire LE5 bottom end? I heard the clutch/flywheel combos are different (weaker on the LE5), but other than that you get 20% more displacement and a strong bottom end.

::sigh:: There is a ring on the end of your crankshaft that, together with a sensor, tells your ecu how fast your engine is spinning. This ring is different on jbody ecos vs the LE5/LSJ. Recently on hptuners.com/forum, somone made the claim that you can unbolt the ring on the LE5/LSJ wheel from the crank, revealing underneath the cast on ring that the Jbodies use.

No one can confrim this yet.


If in fact the ring that the jbody uses is underneath, it would make bottom end swaps much easier, and most imporantly, it would make them play nice with the jbody ecu.

 

It's not there on the lsj crank I have here.

 

i heard that you can swap a ls7 crank with an ecotec with nothing more than extra strength duck tape and packing grease

Not on the LSJ crank from what I remember. just some nubbins that the reluctor ring bolted too

i know what the relucter/trigger ring is for and yes you can unbolt it i haavent seen a cast on ring though
