not on the stock exhaust. im am just looking to do it that way until i get a 3 inch exhaust. the 2nd o2 is already taken care of with hpt. i would like to use that spot for the wideband. but i need to gut the cut. i am just worried if there will be anything left in there when i knock the honeycomb stuff out.

Put the wb sensor before the cat on the stock exhaust.

um....actually thinking about the question....if you knock out the crap in the cat I don't see why it wouldn't read right.

I've seen a few people cut the cat open, remove the 'stuffing' and put a section of pipe through there to make it look like it hasn't been gutted.
Its really simple to get a bung welded before the cat. The PITA part is getting the bolts loose and not breaking them (from the manifold>downpipe).

take two bed pans (like they use in the hospital) and fit them around your exhaust fill them with fiberglass and then weld them together. It looks like a cat and with the fiberglass it won't rattle...

Just a little suggestion.... have you seen what you can get for your stock cat at the salvage yard? Some places here are paying 200+ for GM cats so I would think twice before bashing out my cat.

Find a hill billy inspection station and slip him 20$. Are you in a visual only or sniff-test county?

he's in a visual only...

Most places won't even lift the car up to look for the car if you are exmpt for emissions unless they hear an exhaust leak...

i m not sure if your aware of this but cats are worth a lot of money the fuller they are the more they are worth...so if you are going to a 3 inch system any way dont bash it... just buy a different 3 inch down tube...
i know they are not cheap...but my friend took his off his saturn and took it to a scrap yard that takes cats and got 150 clams for one that was surely older and more used than yours...

Too bad you are so far away or I would hook you up.

I have been inspecting cars/trucks for 9 years and never got questioned on anything. All you have to say is "it was there when I looked at it"

Personally I would do as suggested above and get the DP you want and make a fake cat, just 2 heat shields welded together. Your stock cat is worth too much to gut it. IMO

Can't you just swap out the down pipe for inspection? Better yet just put a high flow 3" cat on. You're not going to hurt the flow or the HP or the sound with a high flow cat...
