Widest tires for the front

On the cobalts the back tires will rub first but how wide can you go on the front until it starts to rub?

depends on your offset.

with a 38mm offset, you can't go wider than a 26"x9.5" tire.

235/40/18 is only 0.1" shorter than the oem 215/45/18 and is 0.2" taller than 225/40/18

so 235/40/18 seems to be the best option, i've been running 225/40's for a while now because the tire place here can get a set for me installed for about $350 with a lifetime hazard warranty

We ran 225/45 Bridgestone 760 sport tires on ASA J8s (18x7.5). They would rub the inner wheel well on a sharp turn and smacking a bump. The 45 aspect is recommended by tire rack on the ss/sc but it is too tall.

This question has been asked before and I believe there is a lot more rubbing going on than what is admitted to.

why are you so set on a 45 sidewall?

A 235/40 is as close to the stock overall diameter as you can get.

245/35

265/30

etc... they all have a very similar sidewall height.

It's just a percentage of the tread width.

ex: on a 235/40 tire, the tread is 235mm wide, and the sidewall is 40% of that. Technically speaking.

if that was in referance to me... they were not by choice, only because someone was getting rid of them, and simply wanted to see how big the tires could go before it rubbed. 245.45 rubbed slightly...so when i get 245.35's i hopefully would not have any problems
