Winter Time and the car feels Different...

im here in Orlando Florida, the capitol of bikini bottoms and fine chicks with diseases and ever since we started getting this cooler weather my car has been running different.

Now i have been having clutch issues and im not sure if its related but let me explain what the car is doing.

When ever its really cold outside it feels as if there is more of a lag to the supercharger. Also its taking longer to whind up or watever. But when it finally does get going it pulls much harder, Kind of similiar to the feeling you get when you first put on a smaller pulley. Also it also feels like there is hesistation at certain points in the rpm band, more often in the lower range of 1st and 2nd gear.

Ive raced my cousin's/best friends SRT 4 numerous times and it still performs the same but there is definately a difference in the way the car is pulling. is this the cause of colder tempertures or is there something i may need to check...

O and just because im in florida dont think it doesnt get cold! We get 40 some nights =)

Thanks again.

As for the car pulling harder, thats normal with the colder temperatures since the air isn't as thick when its hotter outside. The other things that your seeing differently, I'm not sure on.

Yeah Im wondering if the 3.0" pulley with stock injectors in florida is a bad combo. maybe even my spark plugs being 1 step colder. I never had any problems before though.

And im so serious about that first statement.

Now don't make us look bad to all the people up north, FLCOBALT. they will laugh at you if you say 40 is cold. that is a heat wave for most of them. they will say "You don't know what cold is! it was like 15 degrees this morning"

My cars always seem to run better in the cooler weather, sometimes though, a lot of the stuff u think you feel is all in your head.

when are you noticing these things? when you first start the car in the morning? if so it's normal for that kinda stuff to happen when the engine and everything else is cold. once it warms up to normal operating temp that goes away. I noticed that my clutch is not as sticky now that I have about 8k miles. compared to when it was new-5000mi.

Not exactly true. colder air is denser than hot air which means there's more air per cubic inch in colder air which means that the harder pulling is a result of your car sucking in more air in that "cold" 40* weather than in the miami normal of 80*. your car will run better with cooler air. which is basically the whole concept behind cold air intakes

I think that's your tires going bald. Mine does the same thing now that I reached the wear bars on my rubber.

Time to save up ~ $600 for new ones

im actually seeing the supercharger put in more air when i stomp on it. when its nice and warm i never hit 13psi now that its cold its 13-14.5psi it pulls harder.

Good point. Remember, GM tunes the AFR's in our cars to be "all-season", meaning that we generally run rich in the summer (less O2 in given volume of air) and then more optimally in the winter (more O2 in the same volume of air).

However, this doesn't explain the hesitation issue. I have a theory about this----

1) I bet when you go WOT, the hesitation is gone.
2) I bet if you disconnected your battery for 10 min. then reconnected, then drove around, the hesitation would be gone.

My explanation for the above two points is that the hesitation has EVERYTHING to do with the fuel trim levels (which are self-adjusted by the learning ECM in our cars). Fuel trim levels are essentially the amount of gas injected at a given throttle position, taking into account MAF readings as well as boost, thereby adjusting the air-fuel-ratio. When there is a change in atmospheric density (such as by temperature or significant elevation change), the fuel trim levels are no longer appropriate (causing hesitation and potentially retardation of timing at certain points in the lower rpms) and have to be readjusted. However, the WOT injector table is never changed, explaining point #1. Also, the fuel trims are reset to a default setting after disconnecting the battery, explaining point #2.

Mind you, this is a theory, but try the aforementioned things and you may be surprised.

Mine does the hesitation to in the cold. Like iam running low rpm and just give'R a little and it will hesitate a split second, and go fly. Dude at gm said everything was fine. So I guess just bad tunning for that cold weather.
