Wrong piping on K&N CAI???

I was just looking for some installed pics of a k&n intake and stumbled across this pic of zinner's car.

look at the bend i have on the filter end compared to the straight one on this installed pic

my CAI came straight down at an odd angle and i had to drill a hole in the wheel well to fit the "Z" bracket as it did not line up with the stock mounting bolt.

??? im very confused right now. how is this possible?

yeah I see what you talking about now...mine is like zinners. Straight at the MAF end. Thats strange, mine fit perfectly. Maybe you ordered the wrong one or they shipped you the wrong one?

Yeah, I dont think that is the right one. Even the TB end is angled different.

prob is that everything else lines up perfectly. MAF fit fine, connected to throttle body just fine.... actually the piping is identical to other pics from the hood view. it's just that lower part. guess im going to be on the phone with K&N/Napa.

Good to know im not at fault here. now if only i would have realized this b4 i started drilling into my cobalt to make a "bolt on" fit

Yeah I'm pretty sure you got the wrong one. K&N got it right the first time and there's no need to redesign it.

is the Ion Redline pipe any different? The only thing i can think of is that they mixed up the pipes and put the wrong one in my box.

I think that might be the intake for the Redline.

Yeah... the redline intakes are waaaaay different. No way one would even fit on a SS/SC. The RL intakes are short-ram style with just a little elbow pipe. It wouldn't come close to fitting on a SS/SC as their intakes don't go down into the fender well at all.

did you have a hell of a time getting that splash gaurd back on? i didnt even get all of the screws back in and it is bulging like crazy.

hmmm. im glad to see im not completely alone. the general consensus from searching was that i was the only one with this "downward" style as opposed to "angled"

ummm. my bracket wasnt even close to fitting and there is no way to tweak it to make it fit in the wheel well "correctly"
