You have to cut it above the rear to get the stock exhaust off.

The new exhaust will come in several pieces so it can be bolted together under the car. The stock exhaust should be able to come off in one piece, but it may require removing some of the rear suspension parts to do it.

I'm starting on mine next week. I got the GM performance exhaust and I plan on installing it, the new springs, brake rotors and Hurst shifter all at the same time.

Uhh, guys you dont have to remove any suspension to get the stock exhaust off, first you un-bolt it from the cat then you cut it above the rear control arms, then simple bolt up the new exhaust.

its not that hard just cut right after the muffler. just hold the saw firm and and do the cutting before you unbolt anything

Yep just cut it right after the muffler. The rest will come off by un-bolting it. The new wxhasut bolt right in!

Okay let me clear this up because i have installed this on my 2.2 and i know people personally with the same exhaust on a 2.0

1. you HAVE to cut the stock exhaust to take it off.... unless you have axcess to a lift... your gunna have to cut it.. I found the easiest way is to use a sawzaw... but its up to you... I just backed my car back up onto ramps and did it that way...
2. The install is perfect.. you have to slide the part of the exhaust with the muffler at the end over the rear axle kinda funny but it fits perfectly.
3. if you cant do this on your own you shouldnt be working on cars because it doesnt take long at all and this is so easy..

So glad you got the exhaust.. you wont be dissapointed... HAve fun! If you want i have pics and vids of the exhaust

Check out this How To..https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-guide-43/how-install-gmpp-exhaust-video-sound-clip-lots-pics-15115/ Its very detailed with alot of pics, and where you need to cut. It is for the GMPP exhaust, but the cutting is still the same. It may help you in installing your new exhaust. Congrats on your purchase and enjoy. Installation of a new exhaust is fairly easy, the only trouble I had was finding a sawzaw, since I was working in my dads garage and not at home. After about half an hour of searching, I found it, and boom, about 30 minuntes later I was done.

you DO NOT have to cut the stock exhaust!!! I just installed the GMPP exhaust yesterday. It took about 1 hour and I DID NOT cut anything.

Jack up the rear of the car. Place a jack stand under each side. Don't put it under any part of the rear axle. Now put your floor jack under the rear axle beam on the left side. (That's the piece that runs across the car that has all of the holes in it).

Remove the lower shock bolt on each side. Remove the bolt that attches the front part of the rear axle assy on the left side. Lower the jack so the axle mounting point drops out of the frame. ( you may have to use a pry bar to help the axle drop free. Its's a tight fit)Lower it about 8-10 inches.

You now just need to twist and turn as you pull the exhaust out the rear of the car.

Re-assy is the reverse.

I realize it is a little more work, but if you think you may EVER need to re-install the stock system, this is the best way.

Also, if you intend to install new springs, now is the time. Since the rear axle is hanging down, you just need to pop the old springs out, and set then new ones in place before you raise the axle back up.
