Your comments on CEL

Well for the past couple of week's I've been fighting a losing battle with the check engine light. Two week's ago it popped up and I took it to the dealership and they said it was probably my gas cap and just give it a few days and it should go away. Well sure enough right after I filled my tank up it disappeared well today it popped up again So I thought it may be gas but unlike last time it has been a few days since I got gas. So I decided to take a trip to Advance and they let me use their code checker to see what was going on and the following showed up.

And the third one was the same as the second error but it said it was a pending so I assume same thing. So does anyone know what would have caused this? Im not tuned or anything its running the stock ecu from the factory so im not sure.

p0171 is normal for a car with a CAI. The other code, however, probably needs to be checked by a dealer.

The part that i stated befor is under your warrenty its part of your motor..
If you have a full warrenty not that extended bullshit take it to the dealer to have them fix it. im not saying that the part that i said befor is ur exact prb. It might be somthing else.
but it sounds like ur having the same prb as me and it might be the same part soo take it to the dealer and replace that part(if thats what it is). and how many miles are on ur spark plugs?

Btw we both have the same car 07 sport red tint coat SS..lol with 41k on them haha

the other code is likely the gas cap.

Yea well today the cel popped up again so I checked it out and the only one was the car was running to lean. I talked to the dealership and told them about the evap and they said to fix it the cost could run up to 500 bucks!!!

neither of those codes are covered by the powertrain warranty, UNLESS the P0171 is caused by a gasket leak or something like that.

This particular 400-series DTC isnt the result of a fuel cap issue. (it's quite the opposite actually, indicating a vacuum being detected in your fuel tank when it shouldnt be present) So it's either an issue with the purge solenoid or possibly the fuel tank pressre sensor.

As long as the plumbing for the purge system hasnt been modified, it isnt likely your CAI is the cause. Either of these items SHOULD be covered under the terms of your Emissions Warranty (unless the dealer somehow deems their failure was attributed to your modifications- however unlikely)
I would just get it into a dealer, tell them you had it scanned for the P0496, and tell them you dont care about and/or disregard the P0171 -which is well documented as "ghosting" in and out on cars with a CAI under very particular ambient and operatng conditions and likely isnt related to the P0496 whatsoever.
Good Luck

yea I ordered a new set of plugs the other day just waiting on them to show up. It may help my problem out not really sure since its a fuel problem not a spark. But then again these plugs are prolly the same plugs that were on the car new....just 42k miles later.

what he said on the 400 series code.

the 171/172 codes are fuel trim error's caused by a couple things. A. fuel trims out of spec by a lot. sitting +/- 18 on either side will trip the code. a dirty maf, vacuum leak, rampant weather changes, bad tuning.

Hmm interesting. Well the car hasn't been tuned by anyone but gm; I cleaned the MAF yesterday and nothing and as far as weather not sure. I do know that when I went in for the night my car ran fine and when i woke up it was raining and since then it hasn't ran good since. I got an appointment thursday at 8am at the dealership to possibly replace my clutch and I may let them get a look at it. Most time when I call them they ask me my mileage but today he didn't he just asked me what was the problem and I told him my clutch is slipping and im getting a lean code and he said he will check them out for me.

I can give the maf a clean again what can i use other than maf cleaner to clean it? Carb/TB cleaner or brake cleaner?
