ZZP motor mount = worthless
ZZP motor mount = worthless
Just recieved and installed the "poly" motor mount that I ordered from ZZP last week. I was very excited to get it installed because of all the good feeback that the mount has been receiving from our members here on ss.net. After uninstalling the old mount my buddy and I inspected them both right next to eachother and I we didn't see one bit of polyurethane on that mount what so ever. It looks and feels like a factory rubber mount that's ever so slightly more stiff. My buddy and I looked them both over, felt the build material and checked the flex on the motor-side flange. It's almost the exact same. This is also pathetic considering my mount has almost 20k miles of wear on it and it's almost as stiff as the ZZP "poly" mount.
Anyway, we got it installed and took it out for a test spin. First thing I wanted to test is the nasty bang I get from hard 1st-2nd gear changes with the stock mount. A much stronger mount should definetly help this out. Well, the ZZP produced the same exact bang, no difference at all from stock. You know, the bang that makes you think the motor is gonna come through the firewall and end up in your lap. Fine, I figure if it at least reduces the wheel hop a good amount I'll be happy, because that is the reason I bought it in the first place, right? After searching around a bit I found a red light and held the rpms at a modest 1500 rpm(about what I launch at when I'm at the track.) Light goes green, I slip the clutch while giving a little over 1/4 throttle and what do you know, the tires start their usuall dance and my interior is shaking itself to peices(I had to back off the throttle to get it to stop hopping. Never reached even 1/2 throttle.) Now I'm pissed, but figure maybe the surface is a bit too rough and go off to find a more suitable surface.
Now I'm at a light with a very nice surface. Back to 1500 rpms, light goes green, slip the clutch a bit and roll on the throttle some. Same result, massive wheel hop. At this point my buddy turns to me and says "this thing is a peice of ****, it's not doing a damn thing." He's been in the car with the origional mount and knows how bad the hop was then. He says he could not tell a difference between the two what so ever and neither could I!
I tried this about 5-6 more times on various surfaces and all with the same discusting wheelhop. I don't understand how this product almost "kills" all wheelhop on other vehicles but does nothing for mine, it makes no sense at all. In my oppinion this product does nothing and is a complete waste of money/time. I'm pissed and want a refund.
I should have spent the extra $50 and got the "true poly" mount from Jbody.

You know what Bulldog... I recieved my engine and trans mount... only one looks to be true poly... the other one looks like a factory mount... pretty lame
I did order some JBP lower control arm bushings though... maybe those will help.

Is it the ultimate solution to reduce wheel hop NO. But i contest that it is worthless. The best thing the mount does is tighten shifts some. No one can expect 1 engine mount to completely remove wheel hop since there are plenty of other mounts that allow parts to move.
I am very happy with the mount and it is significantly stiffer than stock. Is it as hard as it could be NO. But honestly if it were and you made all the mounts on the car as hard as possible the car would shake apart.
The best single mount out there now is the transmission mount, from either ZZP or RSM. But because they are much stiffer than stock any conditions under boost and less than 2K rpm will shake most of the front end.
Now truly worthless pieces are the engine dampers, at least the Weapon-r one. The ZZP motor mount does much more than the damper.
The best ways left to reduce the wheel hop are better tires (the best option imo) and the JBP control arm bushings (which others say work but i haven't tried)

Also the ZZP mounts are the factory mounts with the oil fluid removed and then Poly inserted inside them. They still have a factory look and feel on the outside because you cannot exert the amount of force needed to tell the real difference. The motor mount will still stiffen front to back alittle more than factory but will not compensate for a bad tranny mount. The tranny mount is what takes all the abuse. If you do both products in conjuction thats when you will feel the true difference. Hope this helps, We have there products and they are very good quality and definately work together for an imporvement.

Like I mentioned in my post, I was hoping that it would noticably reduce the slap from the engine during hard shifts as any stiffer than stock mount should. This uselss pos didn't do anything at all, what so ever over the stock mount. On the ZZP site it specifically says "poly engine mount" and this is what I was expecting to recieve, a damn polyurethane engine mount. I could car less if it vibrates the car a bit, I want a damn peformance car that performs! This does not.

i figured as much when I saw a stock metal casing.... that made me want to steer away from all of ZZPerformances products. all my mounts are from JBP. control arm bushings are the way to go for wheel hop!!
Think I will wait and see how these bushing do for Tofu. I've already orderd my wider tires to see if it controls my hop even the slightest. I didn't buy them for that reason since I already burned the radials all the way down to nothing on my pirellis. This would just be a good test. My tires get installed the same day I pull my car out of storage. The 1st of March.
P225/40/R18 Nitto NT55's (All 4 for street) & a set of NT01 (Front tires only & Use on track or nice shiney day
) P225/45/R17 (Only can use once I get a set of 17' N/A SS rims)
These tires are going to kick my mom right in the face
Will post pictures once they are in.

In all defense I have to say I noticed a difference in wheel hop at the track w/ the motor mount. Although I would also say it made more of a difference in shifter firmness than eliminating wheel hop. But just the fact that I've got something stronger than the stock mount that can handle more abuse is worth the money imho.

Control arm bushings are really the way to go to mostly salve the problem, but I wanted something that would help smooth out shifts and reduce the wheel hop a bit at the same time. Instead what I recieve was an overpriced factory mount. It literally has done nothing to help the car in anyway over stock. So what the hell is the point of producing a "performance" product that doesnt do any of the advertised things that it's said to do?

In my oppinion it's not worth the money compared to a product, such a jbp's mount, when the jpb mount is a complete custom mount with a fully urethane core that's only $60 more. The ZZP mount is way overpriced for what it is and what it achieves.

With this mount the engine still moves around every bit as much as with the stock mount.
