00-04 ecotec head work for 05-06 ecotec head

the reason i am asking is bc i am running to the junkyard saturday and i will be pulling a head off a ion i saw there, which has the same head as mine, no mechanical p/s...but incase that ion is no longer there, all the other eco's are 00-04 which do have a p/s pump set up off the intake cam...i know my head has a block off plate thing there, will that plate just tranfer over to this new head? would it be a straight swap?

wtf does that blue circle go to...i havent checked to see if my head has that or not...

try posting this on ecotecforum.com

you should get a pretty good response there, if it hasn't already been covered.

He'll get a response here probably before he will there. While i say ecotecforum is a lot more technical and a better forum for knowledge...its also nowhere near as active as CSS is.

Yes. you can use an earlier head.

The red circle is where the PS would go. The blue circle is where EGR goes, it wasnt used in North America. They deleted it from the casting some time in 2005 model year.

Cool cool so my PS block off plate from my head will just transfer over to the cavalier head. And I'll just use a Eco head with no egr on it. Or one that has a block off on it...

Yup. And unless its been removed every head you find will have the EGR blockoff.

Yeah, but then you have to have them weld it closed....its a lot cheaper to just run it the way it is.....Every ECO Jbody had that EGR boss on there and it never hurt them.

Unless youve got head studs just leave the manifold on and pull it off with the head as one piece. and remove it on the bench.

(flat rate tech secret )

WellSWell long story short...

-got all the bolts off except one for the timing chain guide, it's on the front passenger side of the engine.
-it's got a big Allen plug x_x
-the yard was closing so my buddy went up to tell them I'm almost done pulling a head, that I would be back in 5
-got back carrying the head, the registers were closed
-have to be there when they open tommorow, @9am, mind u guys I live 1.5hrs from this yard, to get get my head that they made me put on the counter, if I'm not, it'll get throw in a pile of parts, and I can't fetch it from there. By than it would be damaged bc of all the other **** in there...

Here u c section8cav taking off the head bolts with a random exhaust pipe :p

Also there is a ion with leather back seats, built on cup holders, will those bolt to my car? I know the front r swapable, it's a coupe w/4 lug nuts. The front were gone or I would of taken them.

here's the donor car :p

2004 Ion base model

cleaned off the head with some degreaser, still going to take it to be checked, probably going to have to have it decked a bit, i saw some small tiny problem areas :p ill just have to get a ticker head gasket to make up for it...

not just the head, but if you really wanna know what my plans are for this:

- Cosmetic head gasket .050
- ARP Headstuds
- Eagle H-beam rods
- Wiseco pistons 10.1:1
- TTR SS valves
- Comp blower grind cams

and yes, I'm buying it all from TTR, not all at once of course bc i would never spend that kind money if i ever had it at once, so im buying them one by one, hopefully TTR can work out some good pricing for me :p

also getting:"
- ZZP springs/retainers

getting a 3 angle valve job on the head, and having my buddy port and polish it for you...to giev you guys a idea of his PnP job:

already bought a PnP intake manifold for the blower :p having it port matched to my new head, getting this from ~jayson~
Before

After:

I am sure lotsa people think I am crazy, but why do you need headstuds? Stock head bolts are easier to use, easier to disassemble engine if needed, and if you buy a gasket kit, its cheaper too.....

Also, Wiseco pistons. the 10:1 pistons that everyone likes to talk about/use arent truly a blower piston.....they are better than stock theres no doubt about that, but they are a lightweight NA piston. I would use Diamonds if I were you, or any other brand where you can get a a proper forced induction piston. Wiseco may even make you one if you specify.
