08 2.2L without air check valve swap to 07 2.2L with air check valve
08 2.2L without air check valve swap to 07 2.2L with air check valve
Hello, I have a 2008 Pontiac G5 2.2L motor without an air check valve that blew and I found a motor from a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt 2.2L that has an air check valve at a good price. I am supposed to get the motor tomorrow and was just wanting to make sure that the motor would be compatible with my 08 G5. Everything looks identical on the two motors other than the 07 motor has the air check valve. I didn't know if I could either do away with the air check valve system or leave it hooked up after the engine swap. I am not a mechanic by any means and have found no answers to the question of swapping a motor without an air check valve to a motor with an air check valve. Any and all help is very much appreciated.
I don't know what check valve you're talking about, but I'd just make doubly sure that the new engine is out of an '07. They made a handful of changes for the '07's, so they're slightly different from the '04-06's.
Otherwise, you should be fine swapping it in with or without the check valve. Typically, they don't make a huge difference (depending on their application), and if you're saying GM did away with it on your '08, then I'd go with that configuration.

are you talking about the secondary air injection (SAI)?
i think the heads are identical, so it shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep your exhaust manifold. as USMC implied, you may have some sensor differences so you'll want to transfer all of your sensors to the new motor. they changed plugs and such at odd times so some may not be compatible.

Yes it is the SAI after looking into it more. My current motor does not have that and the motor I found to replace it has the SAI. I was just wondering if I could still swap them and if the SAI was necessary. Thanks for the help and feedback!
SAI isn't necessary, it's just an emissions thing for a few states (mainly CA). It's just bolted to the head not connected internally at all iirc so the head isn't exposed when you remove it.
All the part does is pump some of the exhaust gas back into the intake.
