2.2 2007 into 2.4 2006 Ion, Help?

Hello,
so my daily driver needed some new parts (steering assembly, wheel bearing, body panels, etc) and I found a parts car in amazing shape that has a blown motor. A piston blew up or something in that car.

Details :

-2006 is a 2.4 Ion
-my car is a 2007 2.2 Ion...

I want to either swap in my motor to the 2.4, or take .. a lot of parts from the 2.4 and put into my car. it seems like less work to put my engine into the 2.4, and that car has air conditioning which mine does not.

What do I need to swap into the 2.4, just my engine? or my transmission pcm and ecm too?
Any threads showing how this was done before?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

if you put the 2.2 motor in the 2.4 car it will run just how it is so long as you leave the cam sensor unplugged.

otherwise youre going to have to use a different ecu/wiring or modify the cam reluctor.

so it will bolt in minus the cam sensor and run as the 2.2 should?
excellent, thank you very much.

is this because of the VVT with the 2.4?

@ slobalt I read your thread now actually.
You swapped the head and that happened right?
So if I swap the entire 2.2 not just the head into the 2.4 car, it should work the same/better if i don't plug in the cam sensor eh?

I do not care for VVT. this is my DD
you said you had issues starting/it took longer to start your car, how is that fixed?
I need something reliable and prefer not to have too many hiccups

I plan to make the decision to buy this car or not tomorrow,
so need to know if this will work and go smoothly
the price is right if its plug and play but if it requires modification thats more than simple i don't want to bother.

edit: to be clear , I want to take my 2.2 and put it in the 2.4 car and not transfer the trans, anything like that.. is this possible?
do i need to swap ecu etc? what do i need to swap to the 2.4 car?

If you keep the 2.4 head it would be even easier as you could leave all the sensors alone.

The difference between the 2.2 and 2.4 is only that the ring the sensor reads off of is 30* different. Only way to fix that would be to switch to a 2.2 computer and may require other modules to be replaced or reprogrammed.

Or you take the reluctor off of the intake cam and clock it how it is on the 2.4 motor.

The only thing wrong ive found from leaving the sensor unplugged was that it takes longer to start but still always starts so i dont have a problem with it

ok ok ok, so if i take both blocks out and do the 2.4 head with the 2.2 block everything will plug back in exactly how it was and nothing further will need to be done?

that sounds doable, if the head is okay which I think that it is but I will investigate.

and if I end up having to swap whole 2.2 because the head is trash, I leave the cam sensor unplugged and only suffer from longer start time until a solution is found?

Essentially yes.

Technically you should tune it but if you dont i dont see anything bad happening. Ive been running my 2.4 on the stock 2.2 tune for about a month now.
