2.2 Exhaust question

ok I searched but didn't come up with anything.

I think I read somewhere that the stock 2.0 Cat back will fit on the 2.2 but will a stock full header back off the Redline fit on a 2.2 cobalt?

yup same motor and SC, comon the RL was out 1year before the Cobalt, I love how at the track people ask me if I swapped the motor from the 2.0 into my Ion

I think the only thing is the Redline has a bit longer exhaust.

ive heard that a couple of times too from my ion buddies. But yea im with ya on the exhaust, i think its a bit longer, and it is a lil more center but i think thats just because of how the bumper is made

The fitment will work, but I believe the piping is larger and that could hurt your torque. I think the base model is 2.25" and the SS is 2.5".

The only difference between some of the redline headers and the cobalt headers is that the cobalts have slightly less clearence between the firewall and the runners. Some of the headers may not fit the cobalt if they where specifically made for the redlines. On of the runners hit either the firewall or something that was between the firewall and the header.

yea the bigger piping will hurt ur lowend torque but u will gain it back up top

the stock 2.2 exhaust is 2 inches and at 1 point breaks down to 1 and 3 quarters...or atleast mine did...i put 2.25 exhaust on my car and the pipping was bigger than stock..but i will be going to 2.5 in the next month or so

there was a guy who fitted the DC Sport exhaust for the Cobalt onto his 2.2 Ion but it took some slight modification.

i would imagine the only thing that would have to be modified really is the hangers and if it is longer then a slight subtraction of pipe. nothing an exhaust shop couldn't handle but I don't think it will be 100% bolt on.

I'm thinking about putting a SS/SC exhaust on my base 4 door. Will it fit the 4 doors with no issues just like the coupe? Does anyone have a sound click of the SS/SC exhaust on a 2.2? Thanks guys

It's still a stock exhaust. At least go GMPP.

Only thing you'll gain is exhaust diameter and minimal performance. Go GMPP exhaust or other aftermarket.

And if your cheap theres always the PaceSetter catback for as low as 139 (depending where you buy)

I know it is a stock exhaust system. I was simply asking if it would fit a four door and if anyone had a sound click. I can get it for $135 usd which is a very reasonable price. I don't want pacesetter, they sound raspy and are poor products.

I have the SS/SC exhaust on my 2.2, it bolts on directly no problems. I'll try to get you a sound clip when I get a chance.

it might be a stock exhaust to the ss s/c...but to a 2.2 that only has 2 inch stock it will be a upgrade to the cars still...ss s/c piping with a magnaflow muffler would be just like adding exhaust with 2.5 piping and the same muffler...correct me if im wrong

Sure would, and all the aftermarket muffler does is make it even louder
