2.2 L61 beginners engine build

I have a 2006 2.2 L61 that is completely stock. I am wanting to build on it but, I don't have enough funds to do it all at once. So, I need help but every thread I have read jumps straight to "Supercharge it" or "turbocharge it". I want to start from the very basics and move up from that point. My engine is burning oil so I'm obviously going to rebuild while its open I'm going to put in new rods and new pistons. Question #1 Do I have to re sleeve or can I just hone out the 0.020? The pistons are 8.9:1 for future supercharge/turbo. Question #2 Will I have to tune for this or will the computer be able to run with the piston change?

Thank you in advanced for help.

You would have to have it tuned and it'll be a dog with those pistons while still NA. A supercharger kit is only about 1k and a bit more for gauges and depending on the transmission (new clutch if manual) it'll be more.

Look into Mr. B sleeves, you'd probably have to get a second block and build that and switch over your head when the time comes. It will need to be tuned weather you have it SC or just NA.

Look into LSJION he ports heads and if I remember correctly will install new valve springs if you have them sent to him.

Stock sleeves and internals are honestly fine for a supercharger build, just because it burns oil doesnt mean it needs to be fully rebuilt. Not saying rebuilding is a bad idea, but not always necessary. You wont be able to hone .020" over thats and overbore which a machine shop would have to do. for low boost builds like yours i would keep the stock compression (10:1) especially when only shooting for 250hp.

If you want to do a supercharger build, id start with the exhaust as you can have that installed and be NA and untuned. pick your header /DP combo and a nice 2.5" exhaust to match. There are a couple good supercharger kits FS on ebay right now that are being sold by a forum member known as Mongorat. He is your guy for any used parts.

arp head studs, cometic head gasket too, 2006 you might as well cam it and work on the valve train while you have the entire motor torn apart.

I want to know the max work I'm able to do with a stock tune until I'm ready. So I can do the rods and pistons keep it 10:1 and just wait for a supercharger? I'm sure a cam and a valve job would require a tune. (I miss working on older engines lol)

You can do a full exhaust, and build the engine with a 10:1 compression ratio with valves and springs if you want. You should not port and polish or cam it until you can secure a tune from Vince.

I'M BACK!! So after many months and my entire engine in just about as many parts as possible. I have found more wrong with my engine then I thought. I have already ordered new Eagle Rods and a new clutch, but I need help finding the correct piston (10:1), valves, valve springs, and rocker arms (one was cracked). Any help is appreciated!

Do a higher compression. It will make more power N/A and if you boost it.

I will be running N/A without a tune until I can get a turbo. So I need help picking out valves and springs that will be ready for the turbo. I am also having trouble finding the correct pistons to go with CRS5765C3D rods.

As long as you dont rev over 7200 the stock springs should be fine

It all depends on the size of the turbo man. You can make 400+ With a completely stock head as long as you dont rev over 7000-7200. I have a stock internal l61 with a k04 making around 230whp

All forged internals are ordered! New question has anyone used the ACT 6 Pad Sprung Race Disc #6224222 with stock compression or is this a bad idea? I will be putting on a turbo but I am having a hard time picking one and I don't have the funds at the moment. Do I need to buy a different clutch?

So to bring this back up your saying if you put 10:1 compression Pistons in, cam it and redo the valves it would be fast w/o port n polish and w/o boosting it?
