2.2 motor swap to the 2.0ss/sc
2.2 motor swap to the 2.0ss/sc
im gonna be doing a swap soon on my 2.2 sedan to the 2.0 super charged motor but right now im just woundering if anyone had done it yet and if so what kind of problems they ran into during the process and what do i have to look forward to .... thanks anything help would be great
I am assuming you are in your research phase, so here is your first stopper...
Tuning. The LSJ needs a different operating program then the L61 you have, and the computer in your car isn't designed to run it.
You will have better luck waiting for a tuning solution, and then planning you changes once you know what is possible.

itll cost you more then getting the garrett turbo kit. honestly, i dont think its worth the money doing a swap. i was going to do that at one point as well. the garrett kit only costs 3k. the engine alone is: $2,925.00 (crate engine depot) not including pcm upgrades, gauge cluster upgrades, fuel sys and header, the accessories if they wont match from the 2.2 to the 2.0. now if you got from there, the top end garrett kit will give you another 90 hp (est) which will cost you less and you can even do it yourself if you have the know-how. even the shop time will be ALOT more expensive in the swap.
just trying to help ya, if you want to do it, go ahead, but its really not worth it.

hey if guys can spend 6K on swapping a K20a into a Civic Si hatch then I can see people having enough ***** to do something similar on the LS.
If he truly was set on doing so and had the knowledge he could make it work with what we have now available.

if it helps i saw a engine, tranny, and ecu with no cut wires on ebay for a good price. i was thinking of doing the same with my LS but that wont be for a while so i dont think im gonna bother. but heres the link for ya. and its only 2,750 bucks starting bid.

no offense but why would you be stupid and use a 2.2 PCM to try and control a 2.0 when u could buy a wrecked SS/SC just for the VIN get the PCM and put a 2.0 in the 2.2 body BAM u have a PCM not that hard
I just alot of trouble to swap a motor since all the suspention, the frame and many other things have to be upgraded. So you got 3000 grand for motor, another 1000-2000 for suspention and the labour, could be around 10,000 after all is done. why not just get a Used SS/SC. It's not worth the headaches to swap motors unless the person has endless amount of money
its not only the pcm that needs to be upgraded. you need the gauge cluster and its computer there (there is a second) as well as wiring, etc.
when it comes to the 2.2L all you can do is basic bolt ons and nos that doesnt require tuning.
your friends book is probably the gm build book. gm dropped the ball on it when they made it. the supercharger wont work on the cobalt, just on the 05 cavaliers (different pcm that cant be tuned on the cobalts yet). it also illustrates the replacement of the gauge cluster and msd ign on a completely different new stand alone pcm. that means its not street legal.
get what i mean?

Good luck, and keep us posted.
I've seen a lot of talkers on previous boards. Mostly my Sentra board. And I just say good luck and don't count on anything until I see it's been done.
It's only illegal if you get caught. Or have stupid emissions.
