2.2L build update

Well i dont know what happend to my thread i had going about my stage 1 comp cams install so ill just recap and put and update as to what is going on.

I tried to put the cams in myself. At first i tought i had the timing off and bent the valves when i started the engine. After i had the car towed to VoTech they went to set the timing for me and told me that they didnt have to because the timing was dead on. So they ran a compression test and told me i had no compression on the number 1 cylinder and reduced on the number 2 and 4 and 3 remained normal. I came to the conclution that while i was rotating the cams over to put the markings in proper alinement i bent the valves forcing the cams to rotate with the number one cylinder at top dead center .

I was looking at the cost of rebuild vs buy new motor already built up by JBP. The rebuild turned out to be right around the same w/ labor costs. So i orderd the Wiesco 8.9:1 compression pistons, egale rods, and ferra valves and spring kit to go along with my stage 1 comp cams.

Right now while im out to sea a local shop, web site is www.mrdautomotive.com, is doing the work for me this time. It should be done by the time i pull back into home port near the end of May. They are taking pictures of the break down and rebuild of the engine. On top of all that they are doing a 3 angle valve job on the head and plaining the deck of the engine block and head.

When i get back I'll make some video clips and stuff to put up on here so you guys can hear and see the work that has been done.

Sweet! I'll definately keep my eye on your build! I'm toying with some ideas myself.

BTW, what is the stock compression on the 2.2L?

Why the huge drop in compression? Are you planning on Supercharger or Turbo?

I would be weary about buying a fully built engine from JBP just for the fact of shipping from Canada. You might want to factor that into your budget.

I also hope you're dropping compression with a turbocharger build planned or in the process...

He actually states that he is rebuilding his engine and "not" going with a JBP crate engine.

I guess I misread it. I thought he was saying he was getting parts included with the JBP build.

I apologize.

yes im going turbo. and i go on deployment in aug. and come back in feb 2008. i'll be re-enlisting while on deployment and my bonus this time will be 45,000 and i get half that up front upon signing on the dotted lines. Needless to say, who ever is doing the tuning has till then to come out with a tune. If there still isnt one by then ill be going full stand alone system.

no im not going with the JBP build. i stated that i compaired the cost of the 2 and was going with a re build of my engine, not the JBP. And yes the compression is droped from stock, if you see my signature it shows the parts i have installed/being installed as we speak.

im gonna buy Hahns Turbo Kit if there is tuning, other wise the shop that is doing my engine work offered to do a custom build with a turbo capable of making 35 lbs of boost and full stand alone fuel managment (this build costs alot more then the hahn and i want to save a lil money, but if there is no tune then im ready to make changes).

you wont be taking any one on until you get F/I, you got a 8.9:1 comp now.

you missed the DD drama though

halfcent runs with reduced compression on his cobalt right now and has no problems no check engine lights. not to mention i put the stage 1 cams in which cancels out the loss of HP from reducing the engine compression and will still make stock HP. But with the stronger parts then the factory ones, they wont distort as the cylinders fire, the parts are lighter taking less HP to move the parts, which in turns equals faster acceleration and restores lost HP from moving heavier parts.

what drama did i miss, and im glad i left if there is nothing but drama still going on with that group

yes wee do. i think ill talk to MRD in portsmouth and see if we can't get one set up for saturday the 26th of May. ill get back to you on that one though. you can have the DD guys come too, i have nothing against them i just didnt agree with the kicking cesar out and kicking out/ not kicking out will or what ever went on with him. ill talk to GM Revolution and see if they want to come out too, the more we get to come the less it will cost us. talk to the guys and see if they are interested. That way ill have some kind of numbers for MRD to see if they will have a Dyno Day for us

saab makes a 2.0L turbo engine that says none other then ECOTEC on top of the engine.

pretty much he wants the metal intake manifold to replace our plastic one. it bolts right in place of our plastic one. Gotta love GM getting their hands into foriegn cars.
