2.2l drag

well guys i have a question i hope u can help me

yesterday i went to the drag racing... im at sea lvl so i have all the 145hp, my question is... whats the "jumping" that the car has when i start the drag race... i mean i launch at 2500 RPM and the car starts "jumping" until the RPM goes after 5000... it doesnt happen when i shift to 2nd gear nor 3rd...

I think that is that the "jumping" is because the tires are doing like a "semi-burn out" but what do you think?... this happens to you too? whats your launching RPM?, its the first time running so i rlly dont know alot... I won to a civic coupe 2008, some malibus, acuras... nothing special... I was surpriced by the civic... won by a nose

thanks for your replies

sry about my grammar... I havent practiced english in a lot of time

That my friend is called wheel hop. We fight with it all the time. There are a few different things you can do.

1. Get solid transmission mounts. 2. Get stiffer suspension. 3. Get a torque dampner 4. Launch at lower RPM.

5. Get a limited slip differential

An LSD wont stop wheel hop, lol

Never ever ever ever let your car do that.

It's VERY bad for it.

can you put lsj axles, or lsj aftermarket stage 2 axles on our cars? that might be a smart thing for me to do before turbo.

i have about 3gs sitting in my turbo fund right now, if figure ill need about 5gs to do it all.

Pre Turbo mods (coming as soon as my overtime binge is over)
Wideband 02 sensor
Larger DP
Engine Mounts
Tranny Mounts
Boost gauge
dashhawk (optional i guess)
CAB's
New plugs

Turbo Mods (immediatly after pre mods are done)
Injectors
Tune
Garrett kit

I should have this in july, but there is a large possibility that i might have to work all of july too so i might not have any time. some chick is going on maternity leave very soon and ill have to cover her.

it is probably wheel hop like everyone is saying, but if your an automatic launching in drive it could be the traction control...

thats odd. i launch mine at usually 3800rpm and i get some fairly bad wheel hop, not as bad anymore since i lowered my car a bit but its still there. but if i launch at 3000rpm i'm slower but no wheel hop. and try the lower control arm bushing's first cuz they help alot.

my interpretatoin of wheel hop is when you launch your car and it doesn't get enough traction it starts hopping until either you reduce throttle or the tires catch. now i know there is more to it but that to me is the simplified answer

Thanks for answering.. here is a very didactic link where im reading everything about wheel hop... http://www.mc2racing.com/tech/20061012a/index.html it may be useful for u too

they say that just changing the suspension bushings will eliminate the wheel hop... what do you think guys

its very common with FWD.

think of it like this. during launch you have a great deal of weight transfer.
the front goes up, the back goes down.
great for rwd, nightmare for fwd, as this means weight is being lifted OFF the tires putting power down.

as the weight is taken from your drive tires, your ability to hold traction reduces significantly,
so your tires break loose,
at that moment, your front end is very light, but since the power is dropped momentarily from traction loss, the weight transfer is reduced, so the front wants to lower again,
so now your wheels grab traction once more,
and the process begins again.

all of this happens in thousandths of a second, and results in that hop hop hop.

Poly motor mount, poly trans mounts, with drag bags in the rear has completely and utterly solved the problem for me, and I can launch at 4000rpm on slicks if i wish, without a hint of wheelhop.

Nope. G85 Cobalts are equally likely to have wheel hop than non-G85 Cobalts. My boyfriend had the LSD in his and snapped 2 axels from it.

No, the LSJ axels don't work on 2.2s or 2.4s

oops, i really dont kno wht i was thinking before...more like 2400k not 4k. I was just out and launched my car and looked at my RPMs and was like "wait a second, thts not 4k"

with an automatic its just so easy to launch you dont really have to think abt it.
