2.2l info

im new to the eco family

i am under the understanding that the 2.0 and the 2.2l share the same head...if so does that mean the suoercharger from the 2.0 will fit the 2.2 or it thats not the case where do i find a charger for the 2.2?

First, it won't fit without some modifications. Relatively heavy modifications since you have to relocate some stuff in the engine bay. Secondly, and most importantly, tuning is a bit trickier. You'll have to use a piggyback instead of directly tuning the PCM with a program like HPTuners.

There ARE turbo kits out for the 2.2 with everything included that you will need, I would suggest looking into those.

Yes the SC will fit with like alleycat said "modifications". If you want to do something like that, I would highly suggest waiting for a tuning solution to come out so you don't run into any major problems. look in the F/I forum, and search for 2.2L turbo finished. Talk to Sw4y1313, Halfcent, NJHK, and WITT, they are like our resident turbo 2.2 guys!

The ECM (engine computer) are different so the SC will fit, but the tune won't work.

hp tuners doesn't support the 2.2, and probably won't for a long time. unless you have an 07. not to sound like a dick, but next time research before you buy a car that you want go f/i on.

gm sells a supercharger kit for the 2.2 it has most all the parts from the 2.0 and its really f**ing expensive. GM can and will tune your ECM to work with their and only their supercharger kit. here is a link to a thread that i linked a website with all the info you need.

how different can the computer really be.... i mean the computer from a reflash cavalier/sunfire should work with the cobalt....even use a cavalier computer and tune with hp tuners to test and tune it

it can be very different. there is no tuning available. the computer is different than the other cars. it won't work. end of story. and you can't just swap out the computer because it controls too many things for that to be a do-able solution. i would suggest really, really researching before you waste money and destroy your engine.

How many ways can we say "It is a COMPLETELY different computer?"

How about it's like trying to install a Windows program on a pre-Intel Mac - make more sense?

ive contacted hp tuners about the 07 2.2. they dont support it either. if they did, mine would have already had the m62 swap on it

i thought he was just using the piggyback setup? i dont know never really followed it much... i just know his AFR was reading out of this world at certain RPMs and while he decellerated. i dunno

also F/I is a popular topic on this Forum and you should use the search option to research more... but in any case if you go turbo at least do the right thing and upgrade your internals before you end up having the guts split open. we've seen it happen already. better be safe then sorry!

I understand your confusion. It is in fact very complicated. Here are some facts and advice. First, try a search. Every question you asked is already answered on this forum.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-2l-l61-performance-tech-45/l61-turbo-super-forced-induction-information-thread-26325/

That thread is all about forced induction on L61 engines in Cobalts.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/tuning-131/ecotec-engine-management-summary-w-pinouts-38412/

That thread is a list of the different computers used in different Ecotec powered cars.

Here is the simple answer. You can't do what you are thinking. Yet.
