youll need more than that to get 235 at the crank and the ss/sc was under-rated wit the power

Yeah it's only 155-165 bolted and tuned. It's really a lot of money to spend for 30-40 HP.

Trust me I went there before. Honestly the car would have been much better if I had done a supercharger kit. Suspension mods also made the car much more fun.

If you aren't going to do a supercharger, then I would say a Trifecta tune and suspension mods would be the best mods.

That's just from my perspective though.

So you're telling me to sc my 2.2 and boost a max of 8 psi then still risk destroying my internals and screwing up my daily driver? I need my car every day, it just seems like a lot at risk with f/I especially with a little over 80k miles on stock setup

170 whp would be tough without cams.

It really is a crapshoot. I spent about $1500 upgrading my LS before i gave up and invested my time and money into finding a great price on an SS/TC. I know that's a tired discussion, but it's true.

Supercharge or Turbo, or I wouldn't spend much upgrading the car. you will be disappointed

even with only 8 psi you will still be well into the 200s and as long as you dont go over that you will be totally fine as far as reliability goes

He is right. On my 2007 I had a 2.4 manifold, 2.4 throttle body, racing solution header and downpipe, 2.25 exhaust, lightweight crank and alt pullies, injen intake, and a tune and I made 168whp. Its the truth. And you can boost more than 8psi. I supercharged mine and am at 12-13lbs of boost on stock internals with no problem. Psychocam made 251whp with a turbo setup on stock internals with no problems. So yeah you have to pay to play. And you won't get over 180whp on a 2.2 without building the entire motor. Like port and polish, stuff like that.

why you mad at me? i could care less how much dough you sink into your ride. i started with bolt-ons and a tune ($$$), then i went to a proper nitrous setup ($$$$) and now i'm turbo'd on a forged motor. ($$$$$$$). do what you want but don't get pissed when your ricer math is found to be flawed. you want power? spend money. if you don't have the money to spend then you don't need to be looking for more power.

This is why I love this website fellas. You guys tell me something new every day even if I don't want to hear it.
There's no way I'm gonna spend all that money on bolt ons and not even get to 170whp that's just pathetic. I guess its time to start saving! And idk about 12-15lbs on stock internals I don't think I'm brave enough for that haha but now... sc or tc? I know with sc there's no lag but I have an auto so turbo wouldn't lag too bad either.. sc is safer for the engine, no?

Whoa easy there spanky. No ones getting mad at you. I was just unaware.
And easy with the ricer talk.. outside of the hood, we have the same car.

Intake = $200-300
2.4 Intake Mani Kit = $250
2.4TB = $50? I don't remember how much i paid
Full Exhaust = $600 or more. Header, Dp, Cat back
Trifecta Tune = $250?

So Fully bolted and tuned = $1300-1600 roughly.

So a supercharger kit isn't far off.

12-15lbs on stock internals? might wanna try more like 8psi on a gt28. you should be fine wit that. you wont make nearly as much power wit a supercharger as you would a turbo on these cars. but the turbo might be less reliable then the supercharger

Intake mani is shipped for $150 at gmpartsdirect.
And yes, it is just as expensive, but not all at once. That is my main point but the $1500 is much more well spent on f/I kit just because of how much more power you'd be gaining.. its all relative.
I'll just have to look around and see what I can find. I think my deal is I want more power. Now. And I can't have a sc kit now hahaha.
Everything takes time I guess. And money. I just didn't have any idea that there would be so little power gain from the bolt on mods.. So frustrating

if you want power. save for the sc kit. even with the most modest of sc'd setups you'd be well within full bolt-on price range and will by far exceed those bolt-on numbers. then after that you can decide on the exhuast and sc intake. again it's your call but well worth the time and patience. i wasn't calling you a ricer dude, i was speaking on the math. which has nothing to do with you or your ride, my bad if it came across wrong.

I know 8 lbs is what I was saying but some dude said earlier his friend was turboed and boosting 13lbs on stock internals. I was thinking yeah but not for very long haha ive read everywhere not to exceed much more than 8lbs unless you plan to rebuild internals, which wouldn't be a bad idea farther down the road.

the issue with limits is stress at 8psi depending on the turbo and tune you're at 250hp give or take and that's enough to grenade a piston. sc'd cobalts are pulling higher numbers cause they only see max boost for a few moments were as a turbo'd balt can and will see max boost much longer, leading to more stress.

No worries i misinterpreted. And I do agree; the sc kit is the much better buy now that I know the real numbers for the bolt ons.
So if I do decide to go sc.. 8lbs of boost, cai, 2.5" exhaust, header, and downpipe.. Where could I be sittin at the wheels

i'd venture to say 210 or more depending on how aggressive you get tuned. the car wont be a slouch and would be a few cooling mods and forged step away from more.

you'd make that kind of power with a blower. never with NA unless you spend a whole boat load of money more than you would on a blower.

What do you mean with a 2.8? The pulley size? Whats stock?
