2.2L Shift Points

It seems like i get momentum when i slam it at 5600 rpm, rather than redline, whats best? Ive been driving manuals for about 5 years racing and all, occasionally i can get good momentum at redline, but it depends. Whats the best rpm? (havent JUST practiced shift points/launching with the cobalt)

check the dyno graphs, but i think its right before redline
if you shift at redline, your next gear will be right in the powerband at a good spot

Another thing to look at is your shift extension into the next gear. What RPM will you be at when you up-shift (usually into the powerband) If you can get an extra 100 rpm from going to redline and sacrifice only a fraction of a second you might come out all the better for it.

same here i hate that lol

since the limiter is set due to tire rating, if i put better tires on will the dealership reflash the limiter to a higher mph?

I hope so! But then again, they may not... In my experiance, dealerships are some of the biggest prudes when it comes to performance mods. But then again I am sure there are some that arent either...

i have pushed all my gears to redline except 5th. but my car has never topped out or hit a rev limiter. and i think my highest was 133?

if you optioned the 16" alloys with pirrelli tires, your speed limiter will be set higher. These tires usually came on the ls and lt models with sport appearance packages that had the middle suspension between the ss and base. better stance and better tires can travel at faster speeds safetly. as for shifting at red line, big mistakes. your engine at certain rpms will only make a certain amount of power. staying in that gear longer becomes usless because you no longer make power and you are actually working against your driveline at high rpms. like opposite from downshifting to slow down.

my car as well doesnt have the limiter...i can do 120 in 4th and be just around redline and i still got 5th but wont gain no speed as to where i think the cobalts are drag limited aka more power=more top speed, i have a base model sedan with the sucky 195/60/15 continental tires....i cant get this crappy tires to spin all the way into 3rd lol...all i have is the lower resonator box on the intake removed lol

I have a 05 base and it goes up to the incredible nail biting speed of 105 as well. I also have the same tires as you. What all have you done to it? (05Sedan) maybe it's cause you have a sedan?

Best shift points I've found are between 22-2500 RPMS not only does it make you SUPER fast but it good on the wallet.

=P whats up ryan

if you have an ss, they will. the 05's came with perrelli's while 06's come with michelin. and the speed limiter is set different for each vehicles different configurations.
